D-Link's DGL-4500 Gaming Router in the wild
With that pesky FCC spilling the beans this week on the DGL-4500, D-Link was forced to show it off at tonight's Showstoppers event in NY before it was fully ready for prime time. They didn't have any extra info on the device, and they tucked away a similar Xtreme N router clad in white when we walked up, but at least we got to check out the pretty OLED and run through a few menu options. We also spotted that DUB-9240 wireless USB kit D-Link announced in July, which we found pleasingly minimal.

The gallery is not of the router. I think thats a wireless USB thingy

The way I see it, the wireless usb hub really isn't convenient, since you still have to have all of your usb devices within cables reach of the hub. Maybe if each device could have its own standalone wireless usb adapter.

There was conflicting info in the last post as to the function of the USB port. The writeup assumed it was to share USB mass-storage space over the LAN but a commenter said it was only to transfer settings between routers on a thumb drive.
Anyone able to confirm one way or another?

Ah, a "gaming" router. Something that's of dubious additional value at best, at an additional expense. That's the first I've seen of a router with a screen. That looks costly, and it shouldn't be necessary.
Someone that's good at using PC games should be able to set up a less expensive non-gaming router with a third party firmware.

damn does that router have some bling factor to it.

Sorry, D-Link. I like to stack my networking stuff up. and having to putthat thing up on top, of my smaller equipment, just so i can use the screen (which seems like a stupid idea on a router basically for "gamers") just seems stupid, why not make the thing tall and skinny, so i could just simply have it sit next to my stack, and turn the screen around when i need it.
bah, sorry. My money goes to linksys, and a hefty donation to DD-WRT

Linksys products suck you must shop at Best Buy where the dum sales people give advice.
RedBull Runner @ Sep 27th 2007 9:27AM
No, Sorry. I prefer to shop online, where the sales people don't follow me around suggesting what to buy when i already know, and have researched a product. Right now im using a WRT54GL running DD-WRT v24 RC2. Works like a dream, and even supports multiple wireless SSID's
Give me a linksys product anyday as long as i can replace the firmware with a nice third party linux package

Hopefully this will be available in the UK soon as I'm in the market for an N router.
From what I've read, the DGL-4500 does seem to do what it says on the tin but I'll hold judgement until I try it for myself.
