iPhone firmware 1.1.1 released, WiFi Music Store included
What goodies does Apple have in store for us this time around? Quite a few, we'd say! Follow the break for more!
[Thanks, JS]
Update: We deleted installer.app on ours and kicked off the update, things are taking a while but no obvious problems yet. Stay tuned.
Update 2: Success! The phone's restarting now.
Update 3: WiFi Music Store, check. New calculator icon to match the iPod touch, check. Phone had to be reactivated.
Update 4: We're hearing numerous reports of "Incorrect SIM" errors on unlocked iPhones after the update -- user beware!

Good maybe now that the iPhone will (hopefully) be under the same lockdown code as the touch, us touch owners will finally see some dedication and progress in cracking it.
What the hell, I'm trying it now. I haven't unlocked my SIM but I have AppTapp installed and a number of applications, including SummerBoard. I'll let you know how it goes.
Yes, please let me know what happens; I've got AppTapp installed.
Please do! I don't want a worthless att contract ...
Oops, it's probably best that I reply to my original post. I got the dreaded "unknown error" when attempting to install the software right off the bat. Maybe undoing jailbreak would have averted that problem, but what's done is done. Now I am having to use the iTunes Restore Phone feature. Looks like I'll be losing my apps and my data. No big deal to me, really, but beware. I'll post again when I'm up and running with 1.1.1.
Now I'm back in action. Lost apps and data. Had to reenter my voicemail password.
Interestingly, I have a new icon next to the standard BlueTooth blue icon---it's in the shape of my bluetooth headset. Looks to be a batter meter. Nice.
Now I'm syncing my photos, music, calendar, etc. It's going to take awhile, so I'll wrap it up here. Bottom line, if you've done a jailbreak, be prepared to start from scratch. It would be nice if someone could un-jailbreak the phone and see if that prevents us from having to reinstall everything.
Can't you use iNdependence to return to the jail?
Well, indeed, I hope that is the case. Despite being reasonably savvy technically I haven't tried to be too ambitious with my iPhone, so I only used Installer.app once they came out with an all-in-one package to install it. Hence I really don't appreciate everything that jailbreak does or what its consequences are.
Anyway, I'm synced up and ready to rumble, so I'm not sweating it. Really what I've lost are my third-party apps, and that isn't the end of the world.
Just for the record, my iPhone is not unlocked, no 3rd party apps and I too got the "Unknown Error" when applying the patch and had to restore. That said, the restore went beautifully and it automatically put back all my settings.
Anyone with AppTapp:
Either reset your iPhone to original settings or DON'T install the new update. My clock no longer opens, I can't access Sounds in Settings, All of my loved AppTapp stuff is gone (I'll especially miss the GPS), My ringtones from iTOner don't work and the software no longer works.
You've been warned!
let me know if itoner ringtones work please
nuked my itoner ringtones :(
Just gotta wait for ambrosia to update than
Well, an unknown error occurred on my initial attempt to update. I now have to restore the phone, which I'm doing now.
Uh-oh... it all starts here...
well shoot ... I bet apple did it on purpose
That's what happens when the phone is jailbroken. The initial update doesn't work then it restores and all works fine.
I'll be posting updates to my original post. Refer to that.
I got the unknown error trying to update a completely unhacked phone. I was trying to use a Windows machine to upgrade. It failed every time. I finally had to hook it up to a Mac to get it working again.
One thing I saw loud and in Helvetica Bold, was that... "the installation of this firmware may make your phone inoperable if you have modified your software...breaks warranty...etc". So I'd say if you've hacked it for a sim unlock it'll probably brick the phone. If anything I'd say you should restore your phone before installing to new firmware to avoid a wonderful $600-400 paperweight.

great to see TV-OUT included! I am surprised.. now just enable dPicture Messaging, Video recording and modify email to only DL Headers, 5K or all email.
Incorrect SIM after updating unlocked phone
That makes sense... the question becomes whether or not you can re-unlock it...
Sounds about right...didn't expect anything different...time for hackers to modify the code.
true
Were you using an AT&T sim or non-AT&T sim?
It sounds like the iPhone is NOT bricked just locked?
tmobile sim, yeah i think its just locked and wants to be activated
SLOOOOOW download...
Apptap wiped along with all apps from iBrickr.
ALL IS GONE!! ;( I had my ATT iPhone hacked at fullest runniing NES, Summerboard, Customize, Finder, Preview all the wonderf¨l lil hacks and now they are all gone! I am going to startitup allover again guys. Let yall know!!

Same with previous updates...it will upgrade the firmware, but wipe you hacks...nothing new here...
I left installer.app installed, and upgraded to 1.1.1. No problems - worked like a champ.
So is AppTap still installed on 1.1.1? That doesn't make sense. And I'm assuming you didn't JailBreak; you just installed it form Nullsoft's Installer.app site? Because that's what I did.
are u serious? apptapp still installed and it worked? do the apps still work etc?
No, AppTap is no longer installed after the upgrade. Probably have to wait for a new AppTap image based on 1.1.1...
how about adding MMS !?
fuck you steve jobs
APPLE RESPONDS TO MMS WOES EXPRESSED BY HAYTHEM
CUPERTINO-September 27th - Apple® CEO Steve Jobs: "Wanna step to a playa? I will eat your first born and force you to play Oregon Trail on an Apple II until you really do develop a case of dysentary."
omg I loved Oregon Trail when I was a kid, haha!
can i just ask if you have an iphone which is unlocked are you actually forced to do an update or is it optional?
Completely voluntary...no forced updates...
So excited for a louder speaker...that has plagued my device since day 1
so can i ask if your not forced to update your phone and it is unlocked why would you do an update? just for the new features?
Two Questions:
1. Do you need the most recent version of iTunes for this?
2. If the answer to #1 is "no", will ringtones that you put on your phone using the original re-naming "hack" with iTunes version 7.4.1 (i think), still work after updating?
also, THANK GOD for the option to disable EDGE data while roaming internationally! I don't have to be scared of $3,000 phone bills anymore!
@Tom: I'll let you know about #2 but for #1: I did NOT have to update to 7.4.2 to get the update. My install of 7.4.1 works just fine (I like my home-rolled ringtones).
Again, as for whether or not they're copied over to the new 1.1.1 iPhone software, I'll keep you posted. I'm downloading the update right now, and it's taking a little while.
my ringtones from the original rename hack are gone, and I am still running an old itunes
I have renamed ringtones from 7.4 and I upgraded to 1.1.1, the ringtones are all still there.
I synced my phone and it said that there was an error and had to restore it. So I restored it. Everything seems to be working fine, just have to restore everything, add contacts, music etc. A pain in the ass and a waste of 30 minutes. I only had used a thrid party app to put ringtones on it. Apple is getting ridiculous with this. I don't understand why they won't let us use our own music for ringtones.
1.1.1 DOWNLOAD LINK TO TRY ACTIVATION IN INDEPENDENCE!

I downloaded it, but when I double click on it, it just goest to itunes. It doesn't seem to actually do anything for me.
