Toshiba tosses gigabeat V41 brick at Sony: misses, throws like girl
First Sony, now Toshiba introduces a new flash-based 1Seg TV totin' media player onto the Japanese market. However, unless you're after SD/SDHC card expansion, Microsoft DRM support, and a larger 3.5-inch display (albeit at the same resolution as the Sony) for the same price but twice the weight, there's just not much to like from the latest Toshiba slab sporting the gigabeat logo. Impress did the dirty work of pitting the gigabeat V41 head-to-head with the smokin' Sony NW-A910 for a feature-by-feature comparison. Damn Tosh, we can feel your embarrassment from here.

'...a larger 3.5-inch display (albeit at the same resolution as the Sony)...'
Er, that'd be because the maximum resolution of 1seg broadcasts is QVGA.
A higher screen resolution would be pointless.

this is the best name for a post ever. I laughed for a good 3 minutes

I concur. Very funny.

Very funny indeed.

Man, can you smell the Sony bias around here? Think I have to leave, this one really stinks - later.
DAZA @ Sep 27th 2007 7:36AM
What exactly is so bad about competition? It's going to encourage one party to reduce their prices. What is it that Tosihba are doing so badly here?
riggs @ Sep 27th 2007 8:38AM
have you SEEN the picture?
davedrastic @ Sep 27th 2007 7:40AM
tee hee on the headline

As a girl, I resent the implication that girls can't throw well. There was no need for the sexist commentary.
stefan @ Sep 27th 2007 8:57AM
You really have no sense of humour, do you?
Blahbler @ Sep 27th 2007 10:48AM
You might be able to throw, but you need a man if you want to toss.
Where do you THINK the phrase comes from anyways? There's a reason we have at least one really strong arm and it has nothing to do with monkeys at the zoo.
That's a damn funny title for the engadget crew. I'd appreciate it now. Praising the originality and making Thomas own in means we might see less repetition down the road.
Go Thomas, it's your birthday.
At least somebody handed in their sony sux card and stopped paying dues. As an exercise in tolerance look at what you see in the article and imagine what it would say if the thing made calls and only had one button on the front, then be grateful you managed to skip another fruit war.
The sony looks sweet. This one just has a different color scheme and is sized for people who can't see their hand in front of their face in a well lit room.

It is an offensive stereotype and completely unnecessary. In addition, it isn't funny at all. How would you like it if it read "Toshiba loses way with gigabeat V41 in its hopes to beat Sony; problem is traced to refusal to ask for directions just like a man."
Ben Rhebergen @ Sep 27th 2007 2:15PM
i'd laugh
Thomas Ricker @ Sep 27th 2007 6:34PM
I'd laugh too.

"Toshiba loses way with gigabeat V41 in its hopes to beat Sony; problem is traced to refusal to ask for directions just like a man."
You're hired.
You have to understand that "stereotype" does not equal "untrue". Stereotypes come about because in general they is some truth to them. I don't think anyone would disagree that some girls don't throw like girls but being the father of 2 girls (that throw like girls) and 2 boys (that throw like boys) tells me that there is some truth to the stereotype. I am not disappointed in my girls because of the way they throw though I would be disappointed in them if they let a comment bother them so much. I would also be disappointed in myself for not instilling in them a sense of humor and the ability to see beyond their egos.

Oh, Thomas Ricker! -No, your too much!
