Suzuki's PIXY + SSC concept thrives in post-nuclear wastelands
Let's face it, we've only got what, maybe three or four hundred years left to enjoy the great outdoors before pollution levels eventually prohibit even stepping foot outside without our personal breathing apparatus. Well Suzuki thinks that it will be in this bleak and toxin-filled future that motorized single-passenger vehicles like the Segway will finally thrive, and is preparing to capture a piece of this potentially lucrative market with a concept transportation system known as PIXY + SSC. Scheduled to be unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, this dynamic duo consists of a rolling transporter (SSC, or Suzuki Shared Coach) which can carry up to two PIXY runabouts -- fully-enclosed, three wheeled pods that will let you comfortably navigate a toxic or post-nuclear world. Suzuki plans to make these available "well before it becomes impossible to walk to our dealerships." Click on for a high-res pic...

hmmm.
John @ Sep 30th 2007 9:42PM
Now if these things ran off of nuclear radiation, then we'd have something to talk about.
john @ Sep 30th 2007 6:33PM
cute advertising.
.. If this was from Apple you could only turn left..
aaplfanboi @ Sep 30th 2007 6:47PM
Users have since found an exploit ... 3 lefts makes a right.
However, this flaw will be patched in the next update.
ryan @ Sep 30th 2007 7:16PM
correct me if i am wrong but i don't think this post has anything to do with apple does it?
Tim T. @ Sep 30th 2007 6:55PM
Kind of reminds me of one of those old Hess Truck toy models.
Matt O @ Sep 30th 2007 6:59PM
well lets hope that in this post apocalyptic world the roads survived the nuclear explosions because this thing has absolutely no ground clearance.
Nissan Xterra represent.
Mark @ Sep 30th 2007 7:02PM
Why does the main transport look like a Star Trek Runabout??
hn333 @ Sep 30th 2007 7:08PM
Does it come with a iPhone?????
paul34 @ Sep 30th 2007 11:11PM
Ahh, but that IS the iPhone (in a future version)!
paragraph @ Sep 30th 2007 7:28PM
i'm gonna have to go to a suzuki dealer when this thing gets released, just to take a test drive xD
it probably tops at like 5m/h xD
honestly, if it wern't for the fact that it's so silly, i'd say it's a great alternitive to acctually doing something to prevent eco-disaster and/or nuclear holocaust ;)
Darak @ Sep 30th 2007 8:05PM
This is clearly a waste of money and time. We all know that we will have teleporters by the time the nuclear winter arrives.
Also - is the personal transport rolling on casters?
Dan @ Sep 30th 2007 8:52PM
These would be great in Perfect World Town. In Real World Town, naughty boys would tip these things over. Redesign is required.
jbcaro @ Sep 30th 2007 9:05PM
Actually, I think the nuclear apocalypse came about because someone heard that these were going into production.
strider_mt2k @ Sep 30th 2007 9:16PM
As long as they make that sound The Jetson's vehicles make I'm in.

Hahahaha - 300 to 400 years.
With "Peak Oil" fast approaching we are looking at a world-wide energy shortage so critical civilization as we know it will not survive.
If anyone searches on "Peak Oil" you will realize that this thing better be bullet proof and run on nothing.

JBDragon @ Sep 30th 2007 9:55PM
Well I clearly see many flaws in this concept. I don't know where to start.
Kozzi @ Sep 30th 2007 10:31PM
Let's start from the windscreen, it has no wiper.
alex @ Sep 30th 2007 11:23PM
True. God knows I hate to manually wipe off the ashes of the dead right after a fire storm in a post-nuclear holocaust.
Kizorblade @ Oct 1st 2007 3:33AM
So you're not going to let the dead people's ashes take a drive with you?
Rad Hatter @ Sep 30th 2007 10:26PM
If you're stupid enough to drive that fugly thing around post-apocalypse, you're guaranteed to get yer ass beat in the Thunderdome. Come on, where's the leather detailing and rusted steel spkies?
Rad Hatter @ Sep 30th 2007 10:31PM
If you're stupid enough to drive that wussy looking thing around post-apocalypse, you're guaranteed to get yer ass beat in the Thunderdome. Come on, where's the leather detailing and rusted steel spikes?
Bard @ Sep 30th 2007 10:44PM
WOW... you guys just make up facts anymore? Suzuki's press junket never said anything about a "Post-apocolyptic" motivation behind making the concept. Once again, just throwing whatever "facts" you like into the story to make it sound more interesting than you think it should be.
Slvrgun @ Sep 30th 2007 11:08PM
Stop with the bullshit. Give us some real cars that use some sort of alternative energy. I can't buy a car from someone's fantasy world car lot.
shadow @ Sep 30th 2007 11:20PM
then one breaks and you're stuck in the middle of no where and you wait untill you die cuz you ran out of air then years later we realize there was never any radiation suzuki and apple just made it up oh yeah also who needs this there will be a function on that years new iphone that turns it into one of these things...
reticulate @ Sep 30th 2007 11:32PM
Who runs BarterTown?
Locus @ Sep 30th 2007 11:46PM
is it possible for someone to mod or ban all these f**king useless iphone/apple comments?
someonemakes some dunmb comment, then someone else does, then later on some dumb retard seems to think that you'll be able to turn a iphone into one.
Get over yourselves you dumb F**ks
its not an iphone or an ipod touch and has nothing to do with them.
does it blend does it play doom?
do we care, its a freaking car (of sorts)
Locus @ Oct 1st 2007 12:06AM
f**k the iphone, and f**k perople who post irrelevant iphone posts
Wwhat @ Oct 1st 2007 12:09AM
Funny how the article talks about pollution ruing the planet and ALL those that comment only read the title which went with post-nuclear.
As for the car concept, it seems doable because in my area there is an explosion of those electric handicapped/oldpeople vehicles and this is the same but with a cover it seems.
Not sure why 50% of the people suddenly drive around in those handicapped things, must be some EU thing where you get them free or something.
Anyway it seems the embarrassment to go around as if you are handicapped must be over because I doubt that so many people suddenly are in such a state to warrant the need, so the market is ripe for this already.
Garst @ Oct 1st 2007 12:58AM
This reminds me of the openning of the Jetsens (minus the flying) where George is dropping everyone off on his way to work. They just need to be able to fit a third pod in the thing.
TK @ Oct 1st 2007 1:16PM
Kang and Kodos called, they want their mobile dryer chairs back.
Magallanes @ Oct 1st 2007 1:48PM
In my Vault manual i cannot find any topics about this car or if it's possible to park inside the installation.
Asher69 @ Oct 1st 2007 2:37PM
Yeah, that's because they don't allow those in Vault 13.
GameboyRMH @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:54AM
The PIXY looks like a Toyota PM concept, minus one back wheel and stuck in city mode.
nate @ Nov 3rd 2007 9:48PM
If that front window could completely disappear into the vehicle so that people could use it in an office setting that would make a pretty snazzy replacement for powered wheelchairs, and when it gets inclement, just close it up.
