Nokia unlocks anti-Apple campaign

The quartet of posters above was photographed in New York city over the weekend by a MacRumors forum jockey. Of course, this isn't the first time we've seen Nokia pounce on Apple foibles, and it certainly won't be the last. Even if Nokia can't help but copy the iPhone interface design in its own future-looking presentations.

What the fuck are you talking about Engadget?? Apple did not invent the fucking touchscreen, nor is its OS 100% thought up by apple themselves. I have a Sont N1 camera - with a touchscreen its over 1 year old and suprise suprise you 'slide your fingers' across the screen to get the next picture.

Other Open-Source code such as the HTML rendering engine for Safari has Apple-led enhancements shared with the community.
It's early days yet, keep hope alive...

Its kinda funny.. but i have a Nokia phone and it has some issues with setting ring tones that aren't DRM.... I can use ones I buy... but I cant make my own... so its kinda hypocritical to have these posters up... wouldn't you agree?

Hang on a minute. I don't have an iPhone, but I do have a Nokia N95 that's supposed to allow VOIP. It's a nice feature that Orange kindly 'closed off'. So, Nokia (and your Orange pushers) take note, people in glass houses should not throw stones.

I think the point is that you can buy a Nokia that is locked from an operator (and get a discount), or pay full price, and get a Nokia that is unlocked. In that case, there are no limits to 3rd party apps. I haven;t seen a case where someone who pays full price (with no subsidy) also ends up with a locked phone.

I don't know if someone has noticed it and posted a comment about it, but those posters are clearly a fake. Look at the drawings of the locks and the writings: they don't follow the imperfections of the paper, supposedly glued to some support. It's a doctored pic.

Is it possible to buy Iphones without contract? No.
Can you buy just about any Nokia phone without contract? Yes.
Will it cost more? Yes.
But are the calls cheaper and the service better - as there is this thing called competition in the service department? Yes.

And if it happens that you hate your new (I)phone - you can sell it without restrictions (on the so called free market...) and buy a new Nokia instead. What more there is to say? Long live the free market!
