"Even if Nokia can't help but copy the iPhone interface design in their own future-looking presentations."
Awwwwwww, looks like little Thomas Ricker had his feelings hurt that someone would dare take a knock at Apple in an ad. Cant have that, so he takes the tried and true Apple fanboy path of claiming that they copied Apple on something.
I agree with that. I was thinking "great artist steal" but just visiting engadget for the last 5 months or so I see the apple bias....Every company is ripping off the touch screen interface....its not like Apple owns the exclusive right to a touchscreen interface...Nokia's design was far less blatant than that Meizu (i think thats what its callled)M8 iphone knock off....
Also-- can you really blame Nokia for bashing Apple in an ad about locked phones and locked OS's....I cant, as too me that Apples biggest problem....Why wouldnt someone challenge them on that esp a company that can offer just as good of not superior products.... Just my 2 cents
Symbian is junk. You can have it. I constantly had to take the battery out to reset Nokia's crap OS every single day. I can understand why Apple doesnt want 3rd party apps right not. Most are garbage, make the OS look bad, and cause it to crash.
Having owned several Nokia phones over the years and being locked into their respective providers I don't really see the point in the posters. It's not Apple or Nokias fault that service providers require contracts and try to keep you locked into their service with whatever tactic they can - not limited to locked devices.
I knew it would only be a matter of time before Nokia and every other phone maker would copy the iPhone, but it's pretty low to copy it and then attack it as well. But that's business and Nokia's attacks have not really hurt Apple all that much previously, I'm sure this will be no more significant than something Engadget can write about. And no people, I am not an iPhone nut, I don't have one because I'm locked into another year on my current contract & device so I don't see it as being cost effective to switch. But that will change when the contract is over.
@Dax - I think you are a little confused. If an application can cause the OS "to look bad" then the OS isn't doing its job very well. A "good" OS should be able to handle just about anything that userland throws at it without calling it quits.
I've never purchased any Apple products (disclaimer: my wife had an iPod mini that I do use for running though, and it does its job well). The iPhone was the first product that I was somewhat seriously considering. Although I knew I was going to wait a while for price drops and letting them get any kinks out. But now, the only way I would begin to consider it again is for them to open up the platform. There is just no way that I would accept using such a (potentially) powerful device only to have it crippled (no A2DP??? just one exaple) and its programs restricted to only what Apple deems "useful."
I really don't know what will be my next phone, but one that I am at least considering is the OpenMoko phone. Not perfect hardware, and the software has a long way to go. But still it has the ability to become "my phone" since I can fully customize it any way I see fit.
I am looking at those posters up and down and I don't see anything iPhone related or anything Apple Related to it? Those posters could be talking about any/all phones out there which claim to be the best or have their customer base make those claims; or maybe... just maybe, Nokia is finally going to give people what they want! FREEDOM; for customers to do whatever they want to do on THEIR new phone! Leave it to Engadget to start/continue the iPhone wars...
