Sony's 3-mm thin XEL-1 OLED TV makes video appearance
If all those pics and details of Sony's svelte new SonyDrive XEL-1 OLED TV we brought you earlier today weren't enough to whet your appetite, then perhaps NHK's video of the display will be more to your liking. While it offers little new information, it does show the display nearly performing a disappearing act as it makes its turn for the camera, thanks to its double-take-inducing 3 mm thinness. Impressive to be sure, although likely not quite impressive enough to make you forget about its $1,700+ price tag. Click on the image above or the read link below to check out the complete video

It is not called the "Sony Drive". Sony Drive is the name of the sony information site where the teaser ad for the device was shown. It is known "simply" as the XEL-1.

How much better is this screen compared to the razor thin, LED lit, 11.1 inch WXGA+ screen on my VAIO TZ... people see that and it floors them.
It may have better black levels..
You should have saved up and got the TZ model!
The technology was at CES in Vegas, and it's far far superior in terms of contrast, colors, clarity that the WXGA+ screens which are a little washed out in that line (I have that same laptop myself). Being OLED they don't require backlighting, and boast a million to 1 ratio.
I'm sure what they have here is a prototype version, as the technology is not scalable right now and the lifetime isn't amazing. It's something for the future to enhance existing products and make it easier on the eye and also on power consumption.
I agree. I saw this at CES and it was by far the most talked about item in that bldg.
Isn't 3mm a bit flimsy? what is the backing made of....
I am pretty sure it is adamantium. Right?
We won't have that element until we discover the second isle of stability in neutron/proton multiples...
Or is it an alloy?
ya or for the price maybe diamond and gold plated XD
The guy in the video had a very interesting accent
cockney accent?
What kind of cockneys do you know?
Put the electronics in the base on the back of the screen and then we'll see how thin it is.
Man did that guy have a crazy accent....That TV would be cool if it were about a billion times bigger and if it didnt have that dumb ass swivel arm
What about the big chunky bottom?
3mm probably has it's downsides... "I tried to pick it up and it snapped in half!"
Can't wait to see this on the the new 99 cent iPhone.
makes me horny!
I don't see any video but I found some old video on youtube:

i don't see how they fit all those people into such a tiny space!
Toshiba wants to roll out a OLED-TV with 30 inch in 2009! I think 2010 OLED can compete against LCD-TV
