Truth really is stranger than fiction: not only has one former heavyweight champion managed to make a lucrative post-boxing career hawking electric cooking appliances, but now yet
another former champ is throwing his proverbial apron into the ring with the release of Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Grill. The press release doesn't actually mention what makes the $99 CirTran-built grill any better than Mr. Foreman's product, but that doesn't stop the former Tyson snack from taunting "don't you think the latest grill is supposed to be the best grill?" Holyfield (or whomever scripted his lines) goes on to advise that "you must connect with a product like you connect with a punch...it's a real knockout of a product, and I am committed to making The Real Deal Grill a true champion." Good luck with that, Evander, but as Hank Hill might say, they're still selling your grill in
housewares dude.
Update: Once again, The Onion proves
eerily prescient (kinda) -- thanks Arthur B!

Why not? George Foreman makes more money now selling his grills, than he did boxing. If I was making the money George is, I'd sell grills too. Let Evander make some extra money too. I'm sure he'd need it when he gets older.
DickHardknocks @ Oct 1st 2007 10:04AM
George Forman has made multi-millions selling those grills and he also has a fantastic clothing line for big& Tall men. I specifcaly purchase his ties and his socks/ underwear because I enjoy the patterns and feel of the material.
He has a line of ties in fact which are zip up and they look DAMN GOOD. $30 a pop.
3rdsun @ Oct 1st 2007 11:14AM
You wear George Foreman's underwear..gross
Michael Michniewski @ Oct 1st 2007 11:20AM

..."you must connect with a product like you connect with a punch...it's a real knockout of a product, and I am committed to making The Real Deal Grill a true champion."
Sounds like something out of "I can't believe they invented it" infomercial on the Simpsons.

Seriously? Wow, this was an onion article years ago, and now here it is.
DickHardknocks @ Oct 1st 2007 10:42AM
I made my family breakfast yesterday on my George Foreman.
Fried up Bacon, and some Italian Sausages. The pan underneath collected at least 1 cup of pure OIL from the food.
I think to myself...
Imagine if that *shit* made it into my arteries.
potato @ Oct 1st 2007 11:27AM
Don't worry, a lot of it did anyway!

Does the Holyfield grill come with steroids and a fertility test? (Boxing fans will understand this)
nih @ Oct 1st 2007 11:12AM
So why is one man's heated surface better than any other heated surface?
If you want novelty, heat a slab of granite in the oven and cook on that. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with a pan.
argonbudddha @ Oct 1st 2007 11:16AM
Don't Teflon surfaces cause cancer?
what they really need to do is make one of these grills that's easy to clean.
The foreman Grill gets caked with grease which isn't hard to clean but the burnt portions stick to the surface in between the raised edges and is really hard to get off. They should give you a cleaning tool like a scraper which won't damage the surface.
Asher69 @ Oct 1st 2007 11:45AM
Both my Foreman grills came with a little plastic scraper just for that purpose... but in all practicality, I've found hosing the thing off with hot water (as hot as you can get it) just as soon as I'm done cooking usually works far better than the little scraping tool.(just be sure to unplug it first!).
LC @ Oct 1st 2007 1:34PM
Before the Foreman grill they had something similar called the Grillerie. Basically the same thing with one significant exception. The grill plates came off for easy cleaning. I never understood why it took them so many years to come out with a Foreman model that had removable plates.
coppersshadow @ Oct 1st 2007 11:27AM
This is a repackage of the "Q" grill which came out about 4 years ago.
Pumapayam @ Oct 1st 2007 12:35PM
You are right, it is the Q Grill, just with a celebrity endorsement now.
Mike @ Oct 1st 2007 11:46AM
No, no, you guys totally misunderstood! Holyfield is selling dental grillz, not lame bbq grills! Damn, yo!
TurboFool @ Oct 1st 2007 12:31PM
I just have to insert here that I was lucky enough to actually work with Holyfield years ago on an episode of the short-lived George Carlin Show. I was probably somewhere around 12 at the time, and he was incredibly soft-spoken and kind to me. I wasn't a boxing fan, but I knew who he was, and posed for some photos with him which he offered in a very NON-egotistical way. His entourage was also very nice. He left me with a terrific impression, so I've always had a fondness for him, and was horrified by the ear incident when it happened. So I wish him the best of luck with this product. It's too bad it'll be seen only as a rip-off of the George Foreman Grill, and will likely not bring him the success I'd hope for him.
Heath @ Oct 1st 2007 12:43PM
It will be interesting to see how the marketing is done with this new product. I've lost 250lbs using the Foreman Grill so I know how good of a product it is. I really don't see what makes this grill any better.
Heath @ Oct 1st 2007 12:44PM
It will be interesting to see how the marketing is for this new product. I'm a true believer of how good the foreman grill is and have lost 250lbs using it.

Great KOTH line. Always wondered about that though; in my local Walmart, the propane and charcoal grills are sold in the Gardening department. Not sure if that's actually WORSE than housewares, but I thought it was interesting...
