XP and Vista both suck. Ubuntu runs circles around it any day of the week.
With that said, I still have an XP partition that I boot into to play games. It does not connect to the internet. I don't do anything but play games on it. I don't even have updates on it unless they are required for a game. I have all the services turned off that aren't required, and nothing running in the background.
I do all my work in Linux, and all of my games in Windows. You gotta keep 'em separated.
