Latest Motorola MC70 blessed with GPS
It's been a tick since Motorola / Symbol's MC70 saw a notable refresh, but today Moto is announcing that the newest version of its rugged Enterprise Digital Assistant (EDA) will boast GPS capability. The firm claims that this addition will allow organizations with field-based employees to "track and manage dynamic, real-time tasking, as well as verify specific locations of activities and provide mobile workers with pinpoint navigation support to improve location-based productivity." Additionally, the device will still include barcode data and signature capture, WWAN, 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth, and should be available for sale worldwide in Q1 of 2008.

Mmm, hopefully it will be available on US Cellular, they could use something like this. Wonder if it is going to be touch screen.

I'd assume it's touch screen, doesn't appear to have enough buttons to be efficiently controlled without it.

It has a touchscreen, units come with a 1D or 2D barcode imager if you so desire. It's also a pretty beefy; you'd look like you have a tumor or gigantic package if you threw it in a pocket. The extended battery makes it about 2-3 inches thick.

So Motorola bought up Symbol Technology to build this sort of device. It looks like it would make a good weapon. You could beat the crap out of somebody with that thing. Looks like something the military would use.

Symbol had the MC70 out in the wild prior to the Motorola purchase. If you'd like to see something more recent, check out their MC35. It's less rugged but has similar specs to the MC70.
