Did someone say "music, videos, pictures, social, radio, podcasts"? (Emphasis ours.) Don't expect these to be the last leaked Zune pics on the interwebs before the big reveal.
as much as i disliked the original zune, this looks a hell of alot more appealing. hopefully they kicked all the bugs and it'll actually have a chance now.
I think they look great. The flash models look MUCH better than the fatty nanos. And I really like the Zune Pad(squircle)...it looks different than everything else, which is good. I cant tell from the pics if they have done away with the double-shot or not..I hope not, that was one of my favorite things about my zune.
They better not have done away with the double shot . . . I didn't dislike the first zune, but all said, that was the one thing they most definitely got right.
I liked the iPod Nano 2G design too if that's what you mean. Apple should have never went "fat" with the 3G Nano just to achieve more viewing space, imho. Now look.. Microsoft is snatching up that chance by making a Nano-like competitor!
Ok, lets just say i really wanted to get one of these. i had high hopes. all i want was a decent looking 160gb ipod classic competitor. and all i get is this 80gb. i really dont want to go apple, but there is no one even attempting to compete with them! If they had released this last year i would have understand, but not this year. look whats out now! come on devs!
It's pretty sad. I don't like Apple, but seriously I filled 80GBs and I need the 160GB. What's the only game in town? That's right iPod. Sure I could get some archos 160GB, but I'd need a book bag to carry it. Some one come out and compete. Yeah, nice try MS, maybe next time.
woah...I wasn't a fan of the original Zune...but these actually look cool...and halfway decent. However, final judgement must wait until I can get my hands on one...
Wow, Engadget. You're really into providing news posts about Zune 2.0.
I'm so happy that you're paying attention to something else than the iPod/iPhone. At least this proves it.
I'm so excited about the new Zune. I'm really happy with my v1 player, but I wouldn't mind upgrading to Zune 2.0 if it's really that great.
ALSO, please NO more SARCASTIC comments! People really hate that. It's annoying. If you have an opinion, express it. Don't fluff it up and try to do crazy things with it. Just express it like anybody else.
when i first read your comments i laughed, liked the sarcasm, then read on and was like "eh? that wasn't sarcasm?"... or was that double sarcasm? oh nozzz i'm lost
just in case you weren't being sarcastic: ya, you're right, like engadget totally didn't mention anything about zune v.1 man... what's up with that huh?
No, I'm really serious. I've never seen Engadget post so many Zune posts consecutively in 2 days. On the contrary, I see practically an iPod post on every page. Or an iPhone post.
Engadget's post about v1 Zune were lacking, but Zune really didn't come up with ways to interest 'everyone' even though it is a relatively nice solid player. But they could have done better. And now they are doing better. I'm a happy reader.
And about the sarcasm - you will not believe how many commentors pretend to wail on the Zune, get low ranked, even though they were just being sarcastic to make a point to Engadget and its other readers.
It's annoying, and it does little to help. So stop with the sarcasm people.
I really hope these new Zunes kick major butt. Included with dock, wall charger. Have wireless syncing. Maybe some other unthought of cool feature. All this will cause is Apple and other companies to try harder and when that happens we'll all win.
So far, I'm disappointed by the size - I thought Microsoft really needed to pump the storage space to compete... but other than that, I'm very excited.
I don't think so . . I mean, for instance, my laptop hard drive is only 80gb, and I don't have it filled up. 30gb is more than enough for my needs, and I'm going to have to bet that I'm within the average range when it comes to the amount of media I have. I just don't know what I'd do with 80gb of space on a PMP, let alone 160.
I'm looking for something to replace my karma. So much worry about style. Well the karma's no looker but it had the features. Sadly most modern players don't have them all. But I need more space.
Wish for zune2 to have gapless, more formats, and something I can navigate with one hand. Apple really loses on the one hand deal, the karma has been great for one hand control in a car.
Also, the backs of all those units look a different colour. They're not shiny scratch-happy chrome are they? The big appeal of the Zune was that its case would continue to look good even with use.
They really better come with some major features if they want to grab more users.
We're talking all the important codec supported (including xvid/divx), maybe wifi that is actually useful ala the iPod touch's implementation. ...they pretty much just need to fix everything the v1 Zune did wrong. The 80GB black Zune is looking quite appealing right now though...
The big one is nice. Big screen and big capacity. The design's pretty slick too. A refresher from all these circle with 5 buttons on them design stuff...
The nano-looking version looks pretty decent, though I can't escape from thinking that the buttons form up to look like a fat mickey logo with small ears. HAHAHA!
Uninspiring junk. Had an original Zune, gave it away after I bought my Archos 605 WiFi. Zune screen is too small for any decent video watching so what you end up with is an expensive MP3 player.

LOL Good one
Chris @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:30PM
is it just me, or am i the only one actually excited about the new zune?
Ireland @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:34PM
I believe Steve Ballmer is excited too, but he's nuts.
sr @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:35PM
Yeah probably.
rlh82 @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:36PM
I'm quite interested, if not downright excited.
mushrooshi @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:30PM
Wow... Do those come with a dock?
And to be honest, while the new zunes do look better than before, they still don't look very unique.
And will this be Mac Compatible?

Archos my friend. Archos wifi 605. I love zune though. I'm hoping for 160gb HDD.
Bryan @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:33PM
The screen size on the flash dissapoints me, but it is an upgrade over the brick that I have.
Can you change the size of the text? That's one good thing about the current firmware.

I see the squircle!!!

i think they unfortunately look a lot like the old zune.

I love iPods, but I'm excited for a new Zune too. I've always liked the Zune itself. I just wished it were thinner.
Bryan @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:40PM
Supposedly the 80 gb is thinner. We'll see in a little bit more than a hour.

How hard is it to use an iPod one-handed? Step 1: Put in hand. Step 2: use thumb to control iPod. It even works with the touch!
Fabrice @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:41PM
boy the ZunePad looks big and ugly...
rlh82 @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:43PM
on the flash version, totally agree. I think it's not bad on hdd version though.
TDG01 @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:41PM
that screen on the 80G device looks pretty killer...i know, i know....it's just a press shot...but i have a feeling it's going to be a nice one...
i am NOT digging that green...i wish they still kept the white...boy am i glad i didn't get the ipod classic...
Scott @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:47PM
I'm hoping that white is a color for the 80g version.

b @ Oct 3rd 2007 7:40AM
interesting, because i didn't think they sold more than 500 of the original. i honestly have not seen one in public.
James D @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:49AM
Ironically, I think these *were* the last leaked Zune pics on the interwebs before the big reveal.
That green is heinously ugly, but I've seen it used a lot in interior design lately. Revenge of the 70's avocado green, I guess.
