Thanks to a helpful tipster, we have a couple of Best Buy documents showing a
$399 Playstation 3 with 40GB disk and Spiderman 3 (yes, Blu-ray) bundle with an "In Stock Date" of October 28. However, the more important "Street Date" field is unfortunately empty at the moment. While the docs look legit and don't seem to be Photoshopped, they can still be faked easily enough. So we did a quick lookup on the UPC code and sure enough, while the details are masked, the manufacturer is listed as "Sony Computer Entertainment of America." Unfortunately, we don't see the new model
CECHG01 listed anywhere in the docs. As such, let's be clear: this ain't official. Still, we'll be paying close attention on
October 12th as will you we suspect.

Obviously some people are complete keyboard warriors... READ WHAT I TYPE stupid... it says i applauded Sony for their move, but it goes nowhere with the lack of games they are supplying... You can rank my post low, but you two are complete retards... Get some glasses
And as for the Best Buy comment... it was a frickin joke... The kid worked there and couldnt see the sku in front of him... So get off your high horses and stop flaming on a board because it makes you feel good...
You both made absolutly no arguements to what i said... so if you called what i said a rant, then you two need to call your moms and jump off a bridge...
Replay....
1. Bashed Sony for a strange move
2.Backed sony for cornering the market on Blu-Ray because it will make them 100X's more money in the long run instead of PS3, which in my opinion is a logical move...
3. Made fun of the new PS3 that is being released since sony is putting new Minimum Requirements on future players, WHICH THIS WONT HAVE
4. made a rib at the kid from Canada...
Okay, so tell me where i was wrong?? stupid asses...
It was only a couple of years ago that HALF of Sony's net profit came from their video game division(s).
i work at best buy and i just looked it up its real
!
Oh dang. Yeah, $400 in the U.S., but what about us Canucks? They'll slap $449 on that hot thing and call it a deal, even though the Canadian dollar has PASSED the American dollar, so we should be paying less.
*sigh* don't remind us Yanks about the sorry state of our currency, please.
Good move, shit-I'll pick one up At $400 as it makes the Elite look like a dumb move. The only thing that is killing me is lack of games, at least I can play Blu Ray movies and cure cancer or something. Microsoft should've gambled on including an HD-DVD player because a $400 PS3 is pushing them in a corner.
Will it have built in wireless and the card readers?
Sony sucks. I dont want a blue-ray dvd player. I wanna PLAY games Hence the name:(PLAYstation NOT DVDstation)
Its about GAMES stupid...
Whatever. The PS2 did well initially at least in part due to the fact that is was one of the cheaper dvd players on the market at that time. History repeats itself. BluRay will be one of the biggest boones to the PS3.
But even if you don't like the BR player---$399 is a good price for a next gen hd system. How much is the wifi-enabled 360? Around the same price if I'm not mistaken.
Sony packaging Spider-Man 3 with new 40GB PS3s just proves that they have no good games to pack w/ it. Sony's price is ripping everybody off, too! The 40GB PS3 is a desperate attempt to increase sales. Removing backwards compatibility and lowering the number of USB ports is gonna turn off customers even more. In terms of the console video-game war, Sony has lost to Nintendo and Microsoft. The 360 has awesome games such as Halo 3, Gears of War, Lost Planet, the Call of Duty series, and many upcoming hits such as Call of Duty 4, Resident Evil 5, and Halo Wars. The Wii has the most innovative gameplay ever for a console. Don't believe me? Check out the new Yahoo article: There's a shortage of Wiis this Christmas cuz their selling super-fast. Backed by games like Metroid Prime 3, Mario Party 8, Pokemon Battle Revolution, and Call of Duty 3, the Wii already has a better game line-up than the PS3 would ever dream to achieve. Upcoming titles such as Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Browl will pwn the PS3 even more. The 360 and Wii have both hit 10 million in sales, while the PS3 hasn't even hit 5 million.
Face it, Sony fans: the PS3 has lost, and it will never catch Nintendo or Microsoft. Ever.
I work for BBY and can tell you that it is indeed a legit document. Got the same screen myself.
