iLuv's Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player lands at Neiman Marcus
First things first: iLuv's forthcoming Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player won't play nice with the iPod touch, iPod classic or the new iPod nanos, but if you're still rockin' an older flavor, keep on reading. This Neiman Marcus exclusive boasts a fairly sexy black chassis, an 8.4-inch screen, touch-sensitive keypad controls, video out and an integrated dock for (last-generation) dock-connecting iPods. The unit will also handle DVD, VCD and audio / JPEG CDs, and there's even a rechargeable Li-ion for moments when an AC outlet is just too far away. iLuv's latest is set to ship later this month for $275, and you can feel free to click on through for another look.
UPDATE: We're hearing that you can actually grab this at other locales, namely Sharper Image, if you're interested.

I love the HUGE remote that comes with this 'portable' device!

This has got to be the most inept attempt at iPod accessory I've seen in my life.
The port allows video signal out, so why bother making a "hole" for the iPod screen?
Why carve the hole exactly for one type of iPod and ignore all other types?
Why the giant remote indeed?
Why the silly name?

Because the iPod only outputs the actual video- navigation is still done on the iPod screen.
Why carve the hole exactly for one type of iPod and ignore all other types?
Because it's been out since before the classic and others became available.
Why the giant remote indeed?
Because you can hook it up to your tv and use it in your living room.
Why the silly name?
Because it's an iPod accessory. :-p
Don't get me wrong, here- all legit questions. i just think that this has a very specific market, and you probably don't fit that market...

I'm waiting for someone to take this idea to my car. Imagine your stereo with a loading doc for an iPod, Zune or any other PMP and gave you complete touch screen access to your music, videos and more.

Phillips makes one like this too.
Also locked into the iPod Video, but at least they designed the remote to store where the iPod goes when it isn't being used.

Yeah, I've been considering the Phillips one. I love watching movies on my ipod when flying because the whole thing packs so small. But with 2 people, it's just too small of a screen.
This iluv thing looks pretty sweet tho- big screen and stuff. But it appears to not have a battery??? useless in my book then...

Not a Neiman Marcus exclusive. I saw it at the Sharper Image.

Yeah, seen this on Sharper Image like months ago. Plus available now. Bad reporting.

This, as ridiculously impractical as it appears, actually looks pretty good.
To me, anyhow.
Yes, they made a new device to support now out-of-date devices, but hey, more power to 'em.
djfost @ Oct 3rd 2007 5:35PM
Hi there, just to clarify, the device does have a battery.
Wondering if these are available elsewhere, e.g. the UK?
Any ideas please let me know.
