Palm Foleo unboxed, AT&T-branded Centro spotted?
Welcome to Engadget: Bizarro Edition. Look, truth be told, now that the Foleo has been wiped from a foreseeable Palm future, we kind of wish we could get our hands on one (rare gadget collectors that we are). Well, at least one lucky, lucky gentleman has done just that, and he's been kind enough to share the pictures with the rest of the world. We're not sure how an individual goes about procuring this device, but we can honestly say we're pretty jealous. It's essentially like having an embalmed unicorn in your living room. But that's not all, kids. Take a long, hard look at that Centro in the photos (which is referred to as the Treo 500P) -- it's got AT&T branding all over that home screen. Is your curiosity piqued? Join the club. Take a look at the little curiosity after the break.

Didn't Palm hand out Foleo's at a developer's conference for mobile linux shortly before axing?

"but we can honestly say we're pretty jealous"
This is some kind of sick gadget necrophilia, considering you guys are the one's advocating Palm to drop this.
AndrewNeo @ Oct 4th 2007 12:57AM
I was thinking about the same thing, but they only advised Palm to drop it because it wasn't a good idea in the long run. On the other hand, why wouldn't you want your hands on a never to be released product?
tekdroid @ Oct 4th 2007 12:14AM
Foleo now on wanted list due to rareness. Heh.
1234321 @ Oct 4th 2007 12:36AM
now that I think of it, I kinda want one too

I was a beta tester for the Foleo. All this guy did was violate the Non-Disclosure terms. I was so excited to be a tester, and I was very happy with the opportunity to offer input for the development for what could have been a great device. But due to an amazing amount of press in the blogoshphere that wasn't conducive to the release of such a heavily invested product, the world may never see the Foleo.

Ha. Palm...

I personally would have loved the foleo. Yes it was expensive and you could get a cheaper laptop. But the damn thing had an amazing battery life and was thin as hell! Laptops cheaper then this thing are HUGE.. I'd love it just for class for notes..
Generic @ Oct 5th 2007 2:59PM
I am desperately looking for the thinest laptop I can find for the same thing. Just want to type in it and not have to drain the battery with something like Aero.

What is censored out of that Centro photo under the white smudge? If it's the AT&T logo, the poster forgot to notice a few other glaring AT&T's on the UI.
DonDon @ Oct 4th 2007 12:51AM
If this were on tmobile i would use this. if it were 99 bucks like on sprint.

Come on,foleo!you hadn't dead.Godless, welcome back! This time which someone need you for your back.
RyanTV @ Oct 4th 2007 1:48AM
That Centro photo really does highlight how ailing the Palm OS has gotten. Its almost reached the 'sad' state and nothing new for another year?!
sigh.... i remember when Palm was at the top of the game.
bobartig @ Oct 4th 2007 2:31AM
Amen, me and my friends all had Palm V's when they were still $500, but you could get them from crazy .bomb companies for $200, and they'd eat the loss with no business model. Those things were awesome back in the day. Then Windows Mobile came out which was 10x as powerful and flexible, and people still don't use those very much either.
Steven Lin @ Oct 4th 2007 4:14AM
Foleo might be an good competitor to EEE PC or OLAP
compuguy1088 @ Oct 4th 2007 10:05AM
Personally, if they targeted the Foleo more towards a similar purpose such as the Alphasmart Dana, it would be a great product. The Dana was a good typing device, though it was held down by the old version of the PalmOS. The Foleo is everything the Dana wasn't: it has a bigger screen, as well as a color screen, full screen web browsing, and editing of documents. If they target it in this field, it wouldn't of had all this criticism.
DorianGray @ Oct 4th 2007 10:11AM
I'm still pissed the Foleo won't be coming out. Oh well, maybe I can
get one for twice as much on eBay...
Hey, thanks loud-assed gadget morons for helping to kill a product you'd never tested or *touched*. The 2 beta testers I know (DC) FRIGGIN' LOVED THE THING!!!
Razor @ Oct 4th 2007 3:29PM
No problem, anytime...
backwoods_retard @ Oct 4th 2007 6:56PM
Does the photo look a little pchopped (on the Centro)? Just near the top of the screen, looks like you can see a reflection just where the OS "ends"?
