GE rolls out pink and black H855 digital cameras
GE hasn't exactly impressed us (or others) with its digital cameras in the past, but it looks those taking a chance on the company's new H855 model will at least be supporting a good cause in the process, as a portion of the proceeds from each camera will be donated to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. From the looks of it, the cameras also look to be somewhat of an improvement over previous models, with them boasting a full 8 megapixels, a 5x optical zoom, a 3-inch LCD screen, and a 28-mm equivalent wide-angle lens. Unlike some other similarly charitable-minded products, you apparently won't have to buy the pink version to see your money put to good use, with a black model also available for those that prefer to keep things a little more discreet. You will, however, have to buy them from the Home Shopping Network, which has these exclusive starting October 20th. No word on a price just yet though.

Why is GE making cameras? Isn't this market pretty well covered already? Next thing you know Canon will be making jet engines.

"New digital camera released, almost the same as the previous model that was announced less than a week ago"
"New laptop released, almost the same as the previous model that was announced less than a week ago"
How about an option to filter out digital camera 'news' and laptop 'news' please?

GE makes EVERYTHING!!! No one ever said world domination would be easy!

FWIW, GE does NOT make digital cameras, or any other kind of consumer electronics. They sold the GE brand; they are made by Thomsen consumer electronics, which has the rights to the GE brand. So, no, I don't think Canon will be rolling out any jet engines in the near future...

FWIW, they are in the top three medical equipment manufacturers. I know they make MOST of their own medical equipment. I used to work in their ultrasound devision. Them, and Philips and Siemens are the top three, not only making their own, but buying up all the smaller OEM's. Now, if you would consider a 300k ultrasound a consumer product is debatable, I guess.

"Portion of the proceeds" is such B.S. Whenever a company is selling something with the promise that a "portion of the proceeds" will go to help a cause, it sets off huge alarm bells. for me. Tell me how much is going, or I'm not buying it. "Cause" marketing really ticks me, the sponsoring organization sells off their good name for a few bucks & the private companies reap nearly all the benefits with very little public good coming out of it. You end up with absurdities like American Heart Association logos on cereals that are 50% sugar and others like it.
I give to charity, and I encourage it. But honestly, you're a chump if you think buying that pink camera will benefit breast cancer research more than it benefits GE.

GE does not make cameras. This is just another company slapping the GE logo after licensing the logo from GE. The real GE does not make coffee makers or alarm clocks or TVs or DVD players or this camera. Some of the things that GE makes are light bulbs, large appliances like washer, dryer, refrigerator, jet engines, medical equipment, nuclear reactors, power plants, locomotives (I work for this division), and industrial systems. They also own NBC-Universal, GE Money, some insurance outfits, etc. They also have a leasing business.
I always wonder why GE licenses its logos to all these manufacturers. I have always found the alarm clocks, and other small products made by other companies with GE logos to be very poor in quality!

Yet another product using the very marketable breast cancer angle. Where's the gray one for Lung Cancer? The brown one for Prostrate Canser?

I just got the pink breast cancer camera, and it takes the worst pictures from far away. Also, the editing program it comes with is so horrible, you can't even make blacka nd white photos. I went to a concert recently, and every picture i took had flash and all the pictures came out dark.
