The AT&T Tilt, October 5 for $299.99
Bringing all of the HTC Kaiser's joy to AT&T, the Tilt has finally been set for an October 5 launch. Besides the obvious feature of a tilting display -- hence the name -- the spec sheet reveals a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, HSDPA, stereo Bluetooth, Windows Mobile 6 Professional (the first AT&T device to officially rock it -- can ya believe it?), microSDHC slot for cards up to 32GB, WiFi, an integrated GPS receiver, and BlackBerry Connect support. Last time we checked, that pretty much covers the "superphone" checklist. Grab it starting Friday for $299.99 on contract after the full suite of rebates has been applied. Follow the break for a bonus shot of the Tilt in its upright and locked position!

Sweet Jesus, Sweet Jesus. Ye has arrived, by, by, Sprint. After seven long yrs, I am Sprinting on.
Bye bye Sprint, hello $45 data plan.
Sorry, I'll stick with my reasonable $15 a month data plan. I just don't feel comfortable paying the same amount of money for my cable modem as I do for my phone.
I have a $20 unlimited data plan. I don't know where you got your prices.
$30 SERO pwns all. End of discussion.
hold off on the switch there grizzly...once you go to ATT you'll find yourself longing for Sprint's liberal terms of service.
Sprint is only carrier letting you freely voip, stream, etc. on their network.
Wow, the only thing the tilt is lacking now is a decent service provider.
Lucky for you, then, they exist unlocked and you can get it for any GSM provider you so choose!
Of course, they're $700 that way....
ATT new Tilt: No Front Camera, No Touch Flow (similar to iPhone touch interactive), No Business Card scanner.
HTC TyTn II has all
If Tmobile keeps giving us crappy phones, and holding back their 3G network, I might just have to switch to AT&T because of this...
The government is holding back their 3G network. They're still using it. FCC ruins everything.
AT&T personal site says Maintenance In Progress. For the Tilt?
I wonder if the 15% for participating students and more for some AT&T Premier customers still apply after all this.
Goodbye 8125, Hello Tilt!
Any idea what kind of price that would translate to in Canada with Rogers or availabilty for that matter?
Ihave one and I'm selling it I want $700 Canadien Firm.
interested email me.
they hit the right price point with this one. They will sell the crap out of them. Its a damn good unit for $299
iphone my azz!!!! welcome to the pros apple.
Amen to that. Amen to that. I gots vZ so waitin for xv6800
Tilt for me lady?? Who doth rock ATT
Yay Kaiser. Time to post my 8525 for sale.
how about 15 bucks
Damn, my blackjack is turning an odd shade of green. Probably from envy...
OMG! I cant wait til my contract ends in December so i can start it up again. im so sick of my 8525, no gps low memory and i hope to god they fix the media player issue (where the media library corrupts after a few hours and u gotta delete the metedata folder and re-update the library, annoying!) but yea and up to 32GB in the future, im drooling
not sure about you guys but I may just hold out for the Omni... yes this a great but if the Omni ever does come out this year... well it seems like a better wait.
Omni or Tilt
The Omni hasn't had a substantiated enough rumor to even be considered in production.
If they make the Omni super thin, and have a really small bezel outside the screen that would be pretty awesome though.
Roflz... AT&T Ocean Anyone?
Sorry, but your "Superphone" checklist is missing "VGA". It ain't a superphone if it's still stuck on damn QVGA. Come on HTC, get with the times...
agreed 100%
That would be the eten x800, same as tilt in features but faster CPU, thinner, lighter, FM Radio and VGA... I was going to wait but I heard Eten has poor warranty service. AT&T probably didn't want to risk working with them. The device even passed FCC regulations
Eh, and the fact that the x800 doesn't have a keyboard?
Cool phone have been testing this unit for about 2 months now.
This phone looks bulky and ugly... No thanks, so 2004 looking..
Where's the bling?? battery life is terrible...
Dork Phone....
Where's the bling? Are you kidding me? You must still be in high school where your social status is measured by how cool your cell phone looks. Go buy an iPhone like the rest of the lemmings.
Unlike your iPhone, the tilt isn't going to be bricked by an update if I try and install 3rd party software. And because I can install anything I want on it, I'll be able to do more on it then you'll ever be able to with your iPhone. I can even turn it into an iPhone if I wanted: http://www.whoneedsaniphone.com/
If that's a "Dork Phone", then sign me.
Can you use a real web browser??? End of argument..
You lose..
How about Opera? Sorry...you lose.
Fine look like a dork with a stylus and ill continue to pick up chicks who dig my iphone... HAHAHAHA!!!!
Assmunch, oh yea and try to fit it in your pocket without looking like a loser..
Ugly peice of crap, good tech just mashed together in a brick... Blows
Get a load of this newb eh people?
The TYTN II owns the iPhone. Can u say qwerty, GPS, 3rd party, oh, what about 3G? Thats what I thought.
Keep picking up those 15 year olds with your iPhone :P
ATT gets this.. what does verizon get? The Voyager... half the phone... for probably the same price...
I really wish AT&T had good coverage in my area, I would switch in a heartbeat.
Yea, Heaven forbid a phone actually look like a phone and not an Ipod. I refuse to buy an Iphone just because it looks nothing like a real phone, and I would feel like an idiot walking around with an ipod up to my head
Is there any difference between the Tilt and TyTyn II. Did AT&T modify (read disable) any software/features available in the unlocked HTC TyTyn II?
They removed the front facing camera, and loaded it up with much bloatware.
No front facing camera, just like with the Tytn/8525.
LOL what good is 3g if it doesnt have a real browser??
Fast shit is still shit... Have fun moving around a page one chunk at a time losers.
Also qwerty blows, do i need to type a novel?? No, so why carry a keyboard.. get with the times.. Virtual keyboards are the next evolution...
Also that screen looks terribly small..
Biggest thing I see here seems to be a HUGE price drop.
Although I paid only $150? for 8525 on Amazon with Wirefly?...most were paying around $500 I think @ full retail.
What is the point of the tilt screen? I doubt you are going to set this thing on a table and use it as you would a laptop. I think the tilt screen will give a bad viewing angle while holding it.
Thanks Matt and ScOObyDoo. So no videoconferencing ability with the deletion of the front VGA cam. Mike, while I respect your opinion, ever try reply to corporate emails or type up a document using a virtual keyboard. As you can see, this phone is tailored for the corporate types, who prefer not to carry the laptop around to dinner meetings or the golf course. A non-biz user, whom you might well be, might be better served by fancier offerings from Apple e.t.c.
Actually D-Boy i find it easier to type on the virtual keyboard.. As i don't have to actually press a key, seems much faster kinda tapping lightly for me at least. I just think people use 3g argument against the iphone to much. I mean your not downloading bittorents or iso images. I think mobile safari makes up for more that half the features of this phone. These phones have terrible browsers and i will never buy another smartphone without multitouch and a full browser. The only thing i will say this has over the iphone is copy paste...lol
What good is 3g? Are you kidding?
What's good is that while you are waiting for your page to load, I will already have read mine, in chunks, mind you, oh wait I could use opera, or minimo browser.
Qwerty blows? Please! You've just got a case of button envy.
I notice you didn't mention anything about GPS, funny.
As for never buying a phone without multitouch, I will never buy a phone without buttons/keys.
I almost forgot push email, can you do that.
What about a replaceable battery/extended battery?
How bout a memory slot, nope, stuck with 4/8GB.
Yeah, it's clear that the iPhone has the edge here (pun intended)
what good is 3g? I can't believe he said that!!
also,
what good is GPS when you have a map?
or
what good is a keyboard when i can poke my finger into the screen?
my personal favorite
what good are 3rd party apps, when i have steve jobs to tell me what i can use?
man oh man!
what good is your brain?
Safari sucks but then serious web browsing on tiny screens sucks. The iphone can't even take calls, record voicemail and browsing on EDGE well is .... slow. No GPS. Using Google maps with no GPS is crappy. Having to type in a how to get to there from here... oh where am I?.. honey take a look out the window.. Thanks Apple you rock. Good God even the Ocean has GPS, Operamini beta 4 Web browser with qwerty support. Helio sucks though. So do most telecoms. Safari, I spent most of my time doing finger splits or the virgin don't touch me there move. The iphone though is subtle, so quiet you don't hear anyone screaming at you down the iphone: Get a god damn real phone!
And when you sit at a Sushi bar with every customer showing their girlfriends how it spins then the iPhone looks as modern as the old T-Ford. One taste, one look, no choice. Ford supported Hitler. Mass mind support Apple… look it spins.
anyone know if this thing can do full html browsing? havent played around with opera much on a phone... any limitations/caveats?
I use Opera Mini on my A1200 (touchscreen) and on my Razr. Here's a simulator
http://www.operamini.com/beta/simulator/
That's just the handset version. The Windows Mobile version is superior.
uhh, if i recall you CANNOT even mass text on the iphone or MMS, unless you feel like emailing everyone. unless they fixed that in the last update that probably bricked your phone. although the iphone does look awfully swell for being overpriced. but then again i could buy an ipod and put up to my head and no one would be the wiser.
Yeah I have a WM6 PPC edition phone, but browsing the internet on the PPC is a horrible experience because the pages don't load up right. There are too many limitations for the browser. Haven't tried the other browsers because I heard they were really buggy. I hate apple, but I gotta say, the full featured browser looks sweet. Hope WM devices start coming with something like that, then I'll have nothing to complain about.
If I install tomtom on this thing, I can have free gps voice-guided directions right? Or AT&T blocks it to use it only with telenav?
You can use whatever GPS service you want, but you would have to pay for it. IE if you bought the 100 buck Tomtom GPS package, you install that on your phone and thats it, GPS and no more paying. Pretty cool IMO.
The final price is $399 from AT&T Wirless Business Center. I do not see this phone anywhere on the AT&T Wireless Personal.
Price Calculation
Base Price$999.99
Company Discount-$499.99
Web Discount-$100.01
Your Price*$399.99
Come on, the price is $399 before rebates. It's only $299 with a special rebate if you sell your soul out to AT&T with a required 2 yr contract PLUS $39.99 or higher voice plan PLUS a $39.99 or higher data plan.
So, for a $299 device, do you really talk 450+ minutes and surf about 80MB of "unlimited" data each month? Let's be realistic here that is what you are paying for and the 2 yr Total Cost of Ownership is $2218.52.
Called my local store, they don't have any in stock and didn't know when they'd get them in. The sales guy I talked to said "Well, I see it on our price sheet, so my guess would be before November 3rd."
My favorite ATT store in Waco, TX didn't have it, but the sales clerk approved my business account over the phone ($299/2-year) and is doing a direct-shipping drop.
you can choose any of the many browsers available for WM6.0
Pocket Internet Explorer
Opera
Mozilla Minimo
Netfront
As you can see there are many choices.
I am probably going to get a Tilt on Oct. 15, but I am want to be sure I can have a good browser. Are these browsers mentioned as good in appearance as iPhone? Does the "chunk" comment still apply with these add-on browsers? Of course, I don't mind browsing in chunks if it is as fast or faster than the iPhone style browsing.
Can anyone help me here with some facts I can count on, preferably someone who is already doing it on their Tilt?
Thanks!
Which of the add-on browsers is best, most stable, etc.?
There are a couple that does pretty much the same as the Iphone:
-Picsel Browser
-DeepFish Browser
and there are many hopes with the newer version of Opera 6. Mozilla Browser, and even a version of Safari itself.
ATT new Tilt: No Front Camera, No Touch Flow (similar to iPhone touch interactive), No Business Card scanner.
HTC TyTn II has all
you do know that since it's a htc phone you can flash it with another rom, do you?
If you want this phone let me know. I work at a ATT company owned store in Sacramento and I can have one shipped to you just like the previous comment. Check out my blog for more information and contact info.

Great Phone/PDA. Nearly excatly where I'm looking for. One big problem for me though. As I'm travelling around, I like to listen to the music stored on my phone. I don't want to have a seperate MP3 player anymore. Well, Tilt only allows a bluetooth headset connection. There is no plug in connection for a wired headset. This is a problem on the plane as you can't turn on Bluetooth, so you can't listen to your music on the plane.
To HTC product management: bad choice guys!!
I had to return my Tilt to AT&T.
Oh yeah, 2 other things:
- webpage browsing is still not good. The iPhone kicks-ass with that.
- the LCD screen captures a lot of dust on the sides, as the screen is not flushed with the enclosure. The iPhone did that very nicely.
When these items are resolved, then I'll buy the Tilt for real next time.
Niels, why not just get usb earbuds ? Then the bluetooth issue on planes and elsewhere goes away.
Yorch, thank you for the replies. Which browser do you think is currently working best for WM6?
Also, which are easiest to install?
