Optimus Maximus to ship in white?
At this point we're pretty firmly on the seeing-is-believing bandwagon with the Optimus Maximus, but this picture on user optimus_project's LiveJournal pretty clearly shows the Ultimate Keyboard with a white frame as opposed to the silver one we've previously seen. Oh, also it's titled "Optimus Maximus to be shipped in white," so there's that. We're kinda getting the render vibe from the image, but as always, we'll leave that up to you to hash out in the comments.

This keyboard makes sticking stickers on my G15 look so primitive.... =(
Tinu Tapori @ Oct 5th 2007 10:12AM
A black keyboard would have looked super-hot!
01 @ Oct 5th 2007 12:51PM
I'll go for primitive over$1500 for a keyboard any day :-)
Alan Partridge @ Oct 5th 2007 7:50AM
That LiverJournal doesn't belong to just some user, it's Artemy Lebedev himself. His been blogging every step of making that thing and its quite an interesting read...if you're into that sort of thing.

Is this ever coming out. If it's too much longer I'm just going to take to my keyboard with some Crayolas.
Nick @ Oct 5th 2007 11:17AM
They are changing the color of the keyboard so they have a new reason as to why it isnt released yet.
blade417 @ Oct 5th 2007 8:04AM
gluteus maximus?....
oh come on, you knew someone would say it
Chrisphillers @ Oct 5th 2007 8:10AM
What a ridiculous keyboard a) its takenbloody years since it was announced b) A display on every single key?? How pointless/expensive is that? When then originally announced it having 8 'hot keys' with displays made sense but this, this is lunacy!
RedBull Runner @ Oct 5th 2007 8:16AM
Lunacy? THIS... IS... MADNESS!
jlouis @ Oct 5th 2007 8:26AM
Madness? THIS... IS... LE-BE-DEV!!!!!111One!eleven!exclamation!
riggs @ Oct 5th 2007 8:39AM
NO!!....THIS...IS...OPTIMUS!!
Don @ Oct 5th 2007 8:41AM
A display on every key is genius, actually. But taking 5 years from announcement to get you product to market, and at a price 5 times more than originally stated? Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Don @ Oct 5th 2007 8:17AM
"Optimus Maximus to be shipped?"
The article could instead have been more accurately titled as the above.
raymie @ Oct 5th 2007 8:35AM
hahahaha you replied to the wrong comment
you ass
Don @ Oct 5th 2007 8:39AM
@ Raymie:
"hahahaha you replied to the wrong comment"

raymie @ Oct 5th 2007 8:47AM

RedBull Runner @ Oct 5th 2007 8:17AM

PFD @ Oct 5th 2007 8:21AM
RedBull Runner go get a life
Owen V @ Oct 5th 2007 8:34AM

Derry Quinn @ Oct 5th 2007 8:38AM

Owen V @ Oct 5th 2007 8:34AM

dudeInAmerica @ Oct 5th 2007 8:37AM
In for 2, wait a minute, $1400 each? In for 0.
Derry Quinn @ Oct 5th 2007 8:37AM
Go Redbullrunner! Yeah!
strider_mt2k @ Oct 5th 2007 9:01AM
Wow!
It's so strange to see one with an actual enclosure on it and not splayed out on a test bench with only a few keys functioning!
I imagine someone out there might actually start believing this is a solid and not a gas!
MEAT! @ Oct 5th 2007 9:25AM
"I imagine someone out there might actually start believing this is a solid and not a gas!"
Very good, very good. But don't stop there.
'...and, some of those people might have money! And then...and then Art Lebedev can...take...take their money for preorders without producing a product! It's all so clear now!'
Hguh @ Oct 5th 2007 9:32AM
with the pricetags on these things, is ANYONE gonna buy em?
rudebo @ Oct 5th 2007 9:57AM
this tells me one thing and one thing only:
they realised only people who buy more usefull but still shallow products from apple would buy the maximus :) hence .. white
Joe_Templeman @ Oct 5th 2007 10:49AM
That keybaord is so awesome!!! But it does beg the question...why not buy a $5 keyboard and scrape the letters off! $80 is stupid!
John Doe @ Oct 5th 2007 10:55AM
No one cares anymore.
Tom @ Oct 5th 2007 11:44AM
What! Please stop making public statements in my name, thanks - I still care about this interesting project.
Constable Odo @ Oct 5th 2007 11:20AM
The name sounds like the name of a Roman general.
shaliron @ Oct 5th 2007 11:49AM
Does this matter anymore?
Texas T @ Oct 5th 2007 12:16PM
what exactly is the significance of this keyboard? what's it do? i just started hearing about it a month or so ago.
Chris @ Oct 6th 2007 12:08PM
Every key is a little screen, so you can change what they display. Like 'e' will change to 'E' when you hold shift.
It's really useful for showing shortcuts and stuff in things like photoshop. But it can be used for so much more.
Really want one, but not at that price, a 22" screen with the shortcuts listed infront of me my be a cheaper option!
CubeGuy @ Oct 5th 2007 3:11PM
If it was 200, I'd buy one. Even if I had to buy the other keys still. It's a fantastic idea.
Kentucky Wildcats! @ Oct 7th 2007 1:03AM
They also repainted the Vector car so it looked like they had more than one. Same deal here.
