Gresso's new USB flash drives come adorned in wood and diamonds
Love USB? Love wood? Love high fashion? It's okay if you lied about one of those, we swear. Regardless of the level of your honesty with us (which we now believe to be lower than expected), you'll want to get your grubby mitts all over these fancy pieces of technology / jewelry. Gresso's cross- and apple-shaped flash drives supposedly transmute the story of Adam & Eve into African mahogany, 18-karat gold, Swarovski crystals, and white diamonds. Inside the dolled-up necklaces, you'll find a 1GB USB drive, which will be perfect for holding all the pictures of yourself that you carry around, or video clips of you and your friends on the catwalk. The drives will be available sometime this month, and prices range from a bourgeois $100, all the way up to an aristocratic $1000.

Save the diamonds and crystals for gaudy overpriced cellphones, I just like the style of the wooden case.
garhart13 @ Oct 6th 2007 2:24PM
fyi...the bourgoise class is upper class people
jbstingray @ Oct 6th 2007 2:33PM
Yea, I think you meant the proletariat cost. I thought something was up with that... good call.
Barry c @ Oct 6th 2007 2:44PM
I was always taught that the bourgeois were the upper middle mercantile and trading class. Definitely above the proles but well beneath the aristocrats.
Joshua Topolsky @ Oct 6th 2007 3:01PM
Perhaps my joke was too subtle. The bourgeoisie are considered upper class, but beneath the aristocrats, as Barry pointed out. My point here was that the proletariat wouldn't be spending even a $100 on a gaudy USB drive masquerading as a necklace.
james @ Oct 6th 2007 4:46PM
Bourgeosie is not upper class, but more of what we now consider today as the middle to upper-middle class. the term has been used to describe the rather broad economic group that grew out of the industrial revolutions in Europe. he's right in his description.
the proletariat cost would be like $0.70

I'd rather get $1,000 worth of fast flash SSD memory than $10 worth of flash and $990 worth of wood and rocks...
suv4x4 @ Oct 6th 2007 3:06PM
That's because you have less money than you can possibly spend in your lifetime.
Some people however, are truly wondering what to do with it. Hey, wooden USB with stones! Neat!
And then there are those who also have less money than can possibly spend, but keep spending on stuff they don't need. Generally referred to as "Apple Fans".

So you want traffic to your blog?
Richard Ford @ Oct 6th 2007 2:59PM
No... just not going to write it in two places at once.. that is the idea behind the web. Don't see too many google ads on my site so, take it or leave it. No skin of my nose.
suv4x4 @ Oct 6th 2007 3:03PM
@Mark, he has a point, you better go check the blog.
It's better to see why people are being critical of you, versus just reject their criticism and make fun of them.
Mark @ Oct 6th 2007 4:00PM
@suv4x4 what does that have to do with the Grasso's new USB flash drives (other than the author of the article being targetted @ the blog)? Its understandable to post that at the keeping it real fake but not here where it has no connection.
jimmyfinch @ Oct 6th 2007 4:02PM
You intent of sarcasm is lost in the post.
However, I did enjoy your blog entry.
I do want to point out that the "keepin it real fake" series embodies the brand of humor that which is Engadget.
The intent of the series is to show similar design elements not necessarily similar functions.
Also, without "keepin it real fake", most of these consumer products would have just slip under the English speaking radar.
I personally enjoy reading the series, and seeing these products which are not readily available to me.
jimmyfinch @ Oct 6th 2007 4:03PM
slipped..... damn

If you're wearing an Apple logo around your neck maybe it's time you packed up and moved to the Australian Outback for a couple months to decompress.
