The 24-carat gold MacBook Pro, with diamond studded Apple logo
For Apple owners, there's one consistent event that can make their shiny new device seem dull and boring: the replacement of their specific device with a new one from Apple. Now there's a new Apple gadget on the block that literally makes every other Apple device look dull. A company called Computer Choppers has put together a Gold-plated MacBook Pro, with an appropriately diamond studded Apple logo. Should go nicely with your gold plated ... HP ... LaserJet. Yeah. Get ready to sell your house.

And eventually their wrists are going to wear away the gold coating and they're going to feel very stupid.
I threw up in my mouth. Seriously. More than a little.
Looks interesting, but I would still have to actually use the mac, right?
How much extra to have "I am a gigantic douchebag" laser-engraved above the logo?
Never mind, that would be redundant.
Plated or solid? Oh, just another fingerprint magnet!
It's not ugly, as some are saying. You're taking someing entirely practical and making it something entirely luxurious. Which doesn't make any sense. Because rich people don't use personal computers, they hire people.
...A mac book pro is notorious for being light, and this, how many people would like to lift such heavy stuff around? ooo, dropped it, crush mark, get a new one...
A macbook pro is NOT notorious for being light (have you really done a side-by-side?). The 17" weighs 6.8lbs (minimum) and the 17" dell Inspiron 1720 (hardly the lightest laptop around) weighs 7.3lbs.
However this is hardly going to affect the weight of the unit, since there's probably less than an ounce of gold on the whole thing. Gold plating takes next to no material.
I would be much more impress if this Mac were entirely Platinum with diamonds all over. Every blinged out rapper in the world would want to own that.
Well, obviously just because one has money does not mean one has taste.
Wow, I'm disturbed by the recent trend of gold plating electronics and lining them with diamonds. First cell phones and now this... Seems crazy when the technology housed within will become obsolete in less then a handful of years. Regardless, they might as well have decided to build a little mega phone into this thing that screams 'steal me!' every 2 seconds. If I was the owner I would be afraid to take this thing anywhere and that would defeat the whole point of owning a laptop in the first place. Also, to be frank... this thing is quite ugly.
jeez; how much does that thing weigh?
Weather or not you like the gold color spending this much on electronics that go out of date is stupid. I agree with the earlyer poster who commented on how many starving people you could feed.
If you like this style why not save some money and use gold colored maylar with a thick clearcote and cut glass? Who would know the differance? Plus it would be lighter and once the laptop either goes out of date or dies you don't have to salvage the gold. Sheeesh! What some people will waste there money on. This thing costs more then I make in a year.
Regards,
Skon
I hear all the starlets are gonna be carrying these around (and dropping them no doubt) this fall...
Dammit, how overkill-y is that? Great, but overkill-y.
It'd be nice to have someone make a second mouse button instead of plating a laptop in anything. That's seriously ridiculous.
it is stunningly beautiful.
my only concern is whether or not the diamonds light up when the unit is on. how does that look?
the diamonds are a little on the overkill side. some sort of translucent gem; a one piece engraving that glows when the unit is active: would have been perfect.
"Get ready to sell your house."
That should have read "Get ready to sublet your parents' basement."
I've only met one Mac user who owns his own house, and that's because his trust fund matured.
Guys Guys. Calm down. This was the work of a single small entity, a friend of mine from the modding community. It was just for fun.
What can a PC user do that a Mac user can't?
Shut Up.
I saw a short little feature on the gold macbook pro on www.julib.com.
I had no idea what kind of comments were springing up around the net about this. Can one product really inspire so much debate among the people about global warming and the social strata?! Maybe we're onto something!
