sadly, the video out is ONLY thru the pin connector still and the AV cables still have to be used with an iPod universal dock... goodbye video out thru the audio jack!
@slug: those jacks have always had the capability for video. the 3.5mm plugs have multiple connection points in the jack. lots of video cameras use them to send audio and video.
You can play a stereo audio off the jacks... thinking logically, that means you would obviously be able to play at least video + mono sound off of them assuming the device could output that to the jack and you had a cable for it. It's all just current - the only thing that mattersisthe number of points you can send data through.
saw a dissection of the iPod Classic, there is an extra connection for video on the headset jack of the iPod Video, this connection does not exist on the Classic. You have to buy the $100 "peripheral" instead of a $10 cable now.
