It
is a device it
isn't a device, that's the debate brewing ever since the mythical "
Google Switch" first graced our pages back in January. Just a few weeks ago, Taiwan's
Digitimes cited sources claiming that Google "
will definitely launch its own branded handset." Yesterday however, the
International Herald Tribune stated that Google is "not creating a gadget to rival the iPhone, but rather creating software that will be an alternative to Windows Mobile from Microsoft." Of course, that's pretty much in line with what
our own sources have been saying all along. According to the piece, Google's open-source challenge to Microsoft will be on display sometime this year with phones, the cost of which could be at least partially off-set by advertising, available in 2008. Fine, just bring it already and release the hordes of gPhone fanboys quietly incubating within our readers (and editors).
So sorry to read this. You all put out some great posts, and became one of my favorite sites. Best wishes landing somewhere more permanent.

Competition is always good for the consumer... especially if the competitor is Google, then the iPhone competition is going to be quite interesting since both Apple & Google are new in that market. That could be an interesting turn in the cell market.

Any device that tries to be a PDA phone will take business away from other PDA phones so the gPhone will take business away from the iPhone if its OS is efficient with no memory leakage. Its OS multitasks and most importantly, it allows third-party applications. Now Google just needs HTC to help them make some sliders and they'll be in business. I'd get one when the third-party solutions start to come.
I've decided that I think Apple and Google should team up even more to show Windows Mobile whats up.
I don't see Apple ever teaming up with anyone other then themselves. I was surprised they actually teamed up with a cell phone company due to the insane amount of control they like to keep over their products, especially since cell phone companies don't usually bend either.
yeah, actually i see you point now haha
but still, itd kick some mad ass
i will call myself a gphone fanboy
