Samsung SDI is building first WVGA OLED panel for handhelds

While the technology is still in preliminary stages, it's not hard to imagine the kind of devices inside which a 3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) OLED display would find a home, and we want one yesterday. Samsung SDI is prepping just such a display, and claims to have overcome the manufacturing and performance barriers that have kept the technology stuck at QVGA in consumer devices. The new technology is being developed in conjunction with Clairvoyante, using Clairvoyante's proprietary PenTile RGB tech, allowing for low battery consumption and high performance, to the tune of 1000:1 contrast and 200 nits of brightness. Sounds good to us, mass production starts Q3 2008.

Good to see more hi-res coming to mobile devices, but 480x800 that’s 3:5 aspect ratio … it should be 9:16 … something like 540x960 would be nice.

Hi everybody!
A russian based site http://mobile-review.com/ is being DDoS attacked for the past few days very seriously. Somebody dont likes the way they write & give the optimal point-of-views it seems.
Fingers crossed for thier fast recovery.
The sites cheif writer Mr. Murtazin Eldar also granting $ 10,000 for the news who is doing the DDoS attacks. The site is being attacked from august 2007 onwards for a few days. Now the site is down for around a week! This is tragic!

The resolution in consumer devices has NOT been stuck at QVGA, reference the Sony VZ90 pda from 2004 featured a 320x480 OLED display.
