Motorola's 2008 lineup leaked in Amsterdam
Like blurry future product shots do ya? Well, these rank with the best. Four new handsets were accidentally on purpose shown to Mobile Phone Helpdesk today in Amsterdam during a discussion with Motorola. Kicking things off is the device code-named "SKARVEN;" a ZOOM-series kick-slider which might feature an 8 megapixel camera and 2.8-inch screen. The TEXEL is another ROKR musicphone due in February or March of 2008. It features a morphing keypad like that found on the ROKR E8 which allows the keypad icons and functions to change in support of music or cellphone modes. The X PIXL is a Kodak-Motorola mashup which should bring a 5 megapixel camera to market under a Motorola Z12 product name. Rounding things out is the entry-level GENGHIS QWERTY device for non-business types. While there's not much to call home about, at least none of these future looking devices looks like another played-out RAZR.

I'd love to know why they chose the name Ghenghis. Maybe it slaughters all your other technology in an effort to be your one true device.
Boynamedsue @ Oct 10th 2007 11:43AM
It actually refers to, if theres no open port on your computer, the GENGHIS will actually slice open another port to rape... er.. interface with your computer.
AKBlade13 @ Oct 10th 2007 8:10AM
Hey, is one of those the WiMax phones Sprint will be
getting, if so,
then PLEASE let it be either the GENGHIS or the SKARVEN.

8 megapixel camera with a itty bitty plastic lens - that is going to be CRAP.
Especially in places you USE a camera phone, like DARK bars and pubs.
Carbonize @ Oct 10th 2007 8:25AM
Motorola phones now come with Kodak image sensors so the photos should be a lot better than they used to be.
Jason @ Oct 10th 2007 8:36AM
Given equal lenses and more megapixels on same sensor size = MORE Noise.
Given a crappy plastic cameraphone lens AND 8MP on a tiny sensor (no matter who makes it) = CRAP.
But then again most people incorrectly think more megapixels are better.
Carbonize @ Oct 10th 2007 11:49AM
Not me. I'm happy with a 2mega pixels Sony Ericsson phone and a 5 mega pixel Olympus digital camera. But then some people think the more lather you get from soap the better it is.
I was just referring to the fact that Motorola cameras used to be crap.

Skarven is an island off the coast of Norway, and Texel is an island off the coast of the Netherlands.

ilh @ Oct 10th 2007 9:02AM
X PIXL? Where'd you get that Pixl from in Super Paper Mario? Guess it's a screenshot capturing Pixl, would've come in use in Chapter 4-4.
t-bone @ Oct 10th 2007 9:17AM
When are they coming out with the ZOMG?
Zach @ Oct 10th 2007 9:29AM
When will Motorola phone names become X PRNONCBL?
Constable Odo @ Oct 10th 2007 9:57AM
More Motorola crapola. Why don't they just sell themselves to a real handset company and give some money back to the stockholders that they lied to. Motorola designers wouldn't know a good handset if they stuffed it up their backsides. It doesn't take much brainpower to find ways to lose market share when every other company is gaining market share.
If they could just kick Zander's ass out the company it might be a good start. That dude is overpaid and underqualified. An effing useless handset company that thinks they can design decent handsets. What a joke.
More megapixels? Jeez, it's supposed to be a phone. Let Kodak put out cameras.
Deluxe @ Oct 10th 2007 10:34AM
More MOTOGRBG
Boynamedsue @ Oct 10th 2007 11:36AM

Sorry, I just have to rant for a second:
Did they lie about the F3 for US customers?
Are they in cahoots with the carriers to only sell phones that are destined to cost customers more and more in usage fees?
There, rant over.
Thankfully there's US importers bringing the inexpensive basic phones over from Europe.
Wobbly @ Oct 10th 2007 1:20PM
a US version of the F3 is available, but ironically it's the importers that have it:

Man, they are in trouble. If this is the crap they have slated for next year, their just digging themselves a deeper and deeper hole. SKARVEN is the only one worth a look in my book.
And BTW, most of the internal Motorola names are based on islands.
ark_v2 @ Oct 10th 2007 1:11PM
So I guess X PIXL is the new family member of 4LTR
DP @ Oct 10th 2007 5:16PM
It's a shame when that is the "at least" statement because all except one looked like sheer crap.
Dave Graham @ Oct 10th 2007 8:16PM
I might be the exception, but I like them all. I've had a ROKR E2 for a year and it's one of the best phones I've had (after you mod the hell out of it though). What they should do is leave the RAZR line and look alone and focus on the Linux/Java ones and give them better advertisement, people barely know what the ROKR E2 and E6 can do, or the Z6, and the only places I've seen commercials for those models are China and Latin America.
I really don't care about the camera quality since I rarely use it, but AFAIK Motorola's going to use Kodak lenses and sensors from now on on their mid and high-end models and spend their stock of crappy 1.3MP and VGA sensors on entry-level phones.
And I don't care if I get voted down, yelled at, or someone mentions my mom here, but when it comes to design, Motorola does much better than Nokia with their ugly phones made out of crappy plastic, and other brands using the same slider case with a couple of different buttons, or the generic touchscreen with a button or two underneath and the now traditional touchscreen with sliding qwerty...
But there's something I do agree with, and it is that someone at Motorola should get fired.

looking for games for my Moto v330, few days back downloaded some cool stuff from youpark.com, nclubsoft.com, dogandbonegames.com and still hunting for more stuff.
laurie @ Oct 11th 2007 7:59AM
What the hell happened to the SCPL? Looks like Moto are leaving the phone business to Nokia and Apple...
