Parrot launches the SK 4000 Bluetooth motorcycle headset
The next time you're heading down the highway, Easy Rider-style, looking for adventure and what-not, you may also want to remain in touch with the less rebellious and not-so-tattooed outside world. Luckily, the good folks at Parrot have come to your aid with the SK 4000 -- a Bluetooth headset meant for use with motorcycle helmets -- which features voice recognition, an FM RDS stereo, text to speech, A2DP support, 10 hours of battery life (600 on standby), and a handlebar-mounted RF remote control. Sure, you'll have to use The Man's money to get one, but once you do, you'll be free to wave your freak-flag wherever and whenever you choose... as long as you get permission from your wife. Available before the end of the year, €199 (or around $282).

And then you can crash and die because you're talking instead of paying attention to the road?

Although if you ride a bike you already know that helmets are only helpful for identification purposes after an accident.

Good luck hearing a phone call if you're on a Harley.

We need an engadget forum.

One of the wisest comment I've read on Engadget so far (no sarcasm here).

Wow, that is one seriously speed racer looking helmet.
robjennings @ Oct 11th 2007 2:17AM
It's a Momo helmet. They make amazing helmets.
Standingfast @ Oct 10th 2007 10:00PM
It looks like the "blutooth headset" part, is just glued to the side of the helmet. It just does not look very integrated to me...
robjennings @ Oct 11th 2007 2:52AM
According to the post, it's not integrated into the helmet and doesn't claim to be. It's a separate headset system that works with helmets.
Highspeedhamish @ Oct 10th 2007 10:02PM
As a 20 year veteran of motorcycle riding... I personally wouldnt wear such a helmet. I guess perhaps its a demo of the system itself and or a retro statement of some sort. Full Face = Save Face in event of the unfortunate. Open face lids are for smokers and people with good dental plans or people who love picking bugs out of their beard.

Now you too can look like Pac-Man.

Dainese has a helmet with the Bluetooth built in, and there's a number of other headsets on the market well under $200. Scala-Rider comes to mind first, and their FM capable unit has voice recognition for answering, for $216. This one better be really nice for the cost and wait.

lol It seems like the person on the other end of the phone would have a LOT of trouble hearing you when you are going 80 mph on the highway.

That helmet is seriously ugly and not very safe. I have a Nolan on order that has the blue tooth nicely integrated and blows this helmet out of the water.

it may explain why so many people seem more willing to take risks .
