Dell intros X38-based Precision T3400 desktop
Looks like Shuttle isn't the only desktop maker cranking out a new X38-based rig in the past 24 or so hours, as Dell is also introducing one of its own in the Precision T3400. Not diminutive by any stretch of the imagination, this workhorse can be equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo or Extreme processor, up to 8GB of 800MHz EEC memory, as many as four internal hard drives, your choice of NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards, dual optical drives and a front-mounted multicard reader to boot. Dell states that the new machine is available worldwide and starts at around $1,000.

It's just a Precision. The only people buying this will be comp sci departments at universities. Universities that are still using dell. In other words, my school. >.

You forgot manufacturing. I've purchased four of the Precisions (massive towers!) and they are solid, well built, easy access and replacement-upgrade friendly (almost no tools needed). Ironically, Dell labels it "A mini-tower". Um, what do they label a tower model, filing cabinet?

They can withstand everything!
There are some of these and a lot of optiplex dell desktops at my school and all of them work as new even at the end of the period even when they are in constant use.

+1 *yawn*
One of those boxes is sitting next to me. I wish I had a bag to put over it, it works well enough though.
