Dell's 22-inch SP2208WFP with webcam and 24-incher out in Japan

It's not out in the US yet, but Dell just announced another webcam packing LCD monitor: the SP2208WFP for Japan. This 1,680 x 1,050 resolution 22-incher features a 2 megapixel webcam and microphone integrated flush with the upper bezel, a 2-ms response, 2,000:1 contrast, and the ability to reproduce 92% of the NTSC color gamut. Inputs? Oh hells yes: analog D-Sub 15, DVI-D (with HDCP), 3x HDMI, and 4x USB. Japan-only for the time being for a tax-inclusive price of ¥59,800 or about $510 whenever it pops Stateside. They've also announced a ¥68,800 ($587) 24-inch E248WFP prepped for a Japan release on October 23rd. This 1,920 × 1,200 model increases the color gamut from the 72% found in their current 24-incher to the same 92% found in the new SP2208WFP. Peep the 24-incher after the break.

What we need is Dell to refresh their 30" LCD with more inputs than a single lousy DVI-D input. WTF DELL.

It would be nice if it also adopts the aluminum look of the 27" design.

The 2407-HC (High Contrast) already puts out 92% of the colour gamut.

Does this imply though that an eventual '2408' will finally see HDMI as a standard input over DVI?

What's the response time of the 24 incher?
That's the key question these days, what with there being no 24 inch monitors with less than 5ms response times.

I think the 2ms response on the latest 24inch Acer must have been a typo or something because the 22 inch version was 5ms and response doesn't get better with screen size.

The reason that the response time on the bigger monitors is because they are mostly either s-pva or mva. This means that the colour representation is true 8 bit per colour representation, which is the only useable monitor in photoediting and film making.

TN panels, like the Acer have a better response time but have terrible viewing angles and even worse colour representation in comparison. Its also worth mentioning that the response time that the Acer 24" monitor states is the grey-to-grey response time, which is vastly less than the Black to White response time, which is what your really should be looking at.

Personally, Ive got the Dell 2407WFP HC (a s-pva panel) and it is a great all round monitor. I watch plenty of films, play lots of games and edit all of my photos. I have never noticed any difference in gaming or watching films (in terms of response time) compared to previous TN panels I've had and the advantages of having incredible viewing angles and decent colour representation greatly outweigh any other possible dissadvantages.

So this "low end" E series from Dell will make it to the USA?
Current 2407WFP-HC is about 600+ usd..

I guess i will have to wait another month to find out :(

I'm really keen on the Samsung 225MW because of its additional TV tuner. I can plug in my PS3 and switch between tv and computer. :)

BUYER BEWARE...I just bought the SP2208WFP. The text is terrible. This is a very poor product. Some users on Dells web site report the same problems. Some video cards don't play well with this one. I have an Nvidia Geforce 7900. I am returning this monitor.
