DS demo downloads coming to the Wii

It looks Nintendo has plenty more than just keyboard support in store for the Wii, with the company also taking advantage of a recent conference in Tokyo to announce a forthcoming DS demo download service for the console. Dubbed "Everyone's Nintendo Channel" (at least in Japan), the service effectively turns your Wii into your very own DS Download Station, with both game demos and videos available to be transferred to your DS. Unfortunately, there's no word as to when the service might actually become available, although we doubt Nintendo would risk raising the ire of the DS-toting masses by holding out on it for too long.

Very cool. I'd like to see this as soon as possible!
LiqwidZero @ Oct 11th 2007 12:33PM
Ahhhh! Reggie didn't lie!
dj-kenpo @ Oct 11th 2007 12:44PM
how exactly are these demos stored on the DS? I thought it didn't have internal memory space for that, hence why opera was an external cart.
Matt @ Oct 11th 2007 12:52PM
They aren't. They're stored on the Wii and transfered to the DS using its download play function. The executables/data are just stored in RAM.
Reginald @ Oct 11th 2007 12:44PM
Finally! It's good to see this happen.
I don't always carry my DS with me to GameStop or BestBuy to use their DS Download Station.

where is everyone to say that nintendo are copying off of sony? oh yeah it doesnt count if its anyone OTHER than sony, forgot.
ilh @ Oct 11th 2007 2:08PM
Um, the Download Play function has been in the DS from the start and i'm pretty darn sure the DS was out first. The obvious next step from DS to DS and demo station to DS is the Wii to DS. The N64 had console-portable interaction so it's not like it's anything new to Nintendo.

'Try before you by' - ohmygosh lawsuit from deli counters.
'Vertical integration' - Well, I think the most obvious one there is the iPod. Oh, hang on, you can even get 'demos' wirelessly on your zune!
I for one, was not shouting 'copy' either when the sixaxis was announced. Because I think you should only catch people on stealing things that have actually somebody's ip.
Like the D Pad! (endless lol)

"although we doubt Nintendo would risk raising the ire of the DS-toting masses by holding out on it for too long."
You obvoiusly have Nintendo confused with some other company. I love most of their products, but they take their own sweet time to do just about everything.

Oooooooooh... I wonder when someone will crack this so you can save ROMS onto SD and transfer them to your DS???
Pirate potential :)
Jeff @ Oct 11th 2007 1:03PM
Why would you want to pirate demos?
Alexander @ Oct 11th 2007 2:12PM
You big idiot. That's already done. it's called WiFiMe.
And commercial DS Roms (which are like 8MB in some cases) won't fit in the RAM inside the DS, you stupid goit.
Abscissa @ Oct 11th 2007 4:07PM
"Why would you want to pirate demos?"
So that I can try before I buy on ANY game that has had a demo, AND do it from my PC, all without restricting myself to whatever handful of specific titles Nintendo feels like promoting at their download stations and their Wii service at that particular moment.
dman @ Oct 11th 2007 1:03PM
Anyone able to translate the Japanese? I'm interested why some of those links have what appears to be the Wii Shop logo and others have the DS logo... are some Wii demos? The screenshot at the top sure looks more like a Wii game than a DS game.
N86 @ Oct 11th 2007 1:11PM
dman, the ones with the Wii shop channel logo are for Super Mario Strikers while the DS ones are for some form of Pokemon dungeon.
I can't read any more because I fail badly at kanji.
dman @ Oct 11th 2007 4:13PM
So perhaps Wii demos too?
Chris Taylor @ Oct 11th 2007 4:18PM
Didn't they announce this when the Wii first came out? I've been waiting for over a year to download DS demos from the Wii.
Sean DL @ Oct 14th 2007 2:46AM
No, Nintendo never officially announced this. They speculated at it, hinted at it in interviews, but no one ever officially announce it.
Like a lot of things before the Wii came out, nothing was officially announced, but people love to speculate on the internet when they read things in interviews.
Paul @ Oct 11th 2007 9:53PM
wait...you cant download demos on the wii? and people make fun of the playstation network....
