iPhone Dev Team releases iPhone 1.1.1 Jailbreak with a side of wolf-nipple chips
Hot on the heels of the TIFF exploit released by a splitter group of iPhone/touch hackers, comes the announcement of a 1.1.1 jailbreak from the original front dubbed the iPhone Dev Team. The hack provides jailbreak, activation, and third party apps but only applies to the iPhone and is not meant for iPhones with modified basebands. Just remember, the risk is all yours if decide to rework the holy wares of the Cupertino Messiah. Thing is, if future Apple firmware updates don't stop you, then the increasingly complex and confusing hacking scene most certainly will.[Via iPhone Atlas]

I wonder how many iPhone owners will install updates from Apple the next time around.

wait. please, someone clarify this. If i order a new iphone from apple now. Its gonna be 1.1.1. So if i follow these instructions... jailbroken 1.1.1. Or do I have to activate the iphone through at&T first and then i can jailbreak it?
One question I can't seem to find an answer is the use of a valid ATT/Cinglular SIM from a phone with a data account already. My company phone is a BlackJack w/data plan and I wanted to hear people's experience with swapping ATT SIMs - does it just work or do you need to SIM-unlock the iPhone first?
...wolf-nipple chips?
@John,
Yeah, reference to Monty Python Life of Brian quote. The spat between the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea pretty much captures the state of the iPhone Dev Team at the moment.

Ah, thanks. I haven't seen Life of Brian in about 20 years, but I remember the JPF/PFJ argument.
Time to rent the DVD, I think. :-)
Mark, I asked the same thing since I had a blackberry curve before my iPhone. The iPhone sims are different in some way, so you need to unlock it before you can use it with some other sim card (even if it is a valid att sim). The other reason for this is that apple has a special iPhone data/e-mail plan.
Brian thank you - I have tried all "trick" to get the iPhone approved on my corp account; sounds like this is the only way. I believe I will eschew the "visual voicemail" but that is only until our company approves the iPhone for use.
that sounds like a good idea. One thing i would caution you on though (from one blackberry user to another) is that I was horrified at the implimentation of e-mail on the iPhone. So, if you rely on flawless push e-mail coming to you instantly...the iPhone may not be for you. I always have to tell blackberry users that. Im in law school now so email isnt as important as it was when i was in business, but if i sill were, my curve would still have a home in my pocket. Enjoy your new iphone! Thought you might find the advise valuable :)
I thought I was the only person to use that quote.
I am also partial to getting out of here like a rat out of an aqueduct. Someday I will have all the gold I can eat!
Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar. Tuscany fried bats...
I DID IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Modem Firmware 04.01.13_G is comfirm unlocked. :) Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have AT&T, i had my iPhone on 1.1.1 and used apptap on it and its working fine on my AT&T network(so far so good, knock on some wood for me) i like AT&T and apple, they've done ok so far and the consumers have done the rest!
I am thinking buy a iphone, but I'm worried about after this unlocking, can the phone works correctly? I mean, can there be a problem after unlocking? I will buy it from US but I will use in another country. For using iphone, i must unlock its jailbreak.
Hi. Could you help mi please?
I have an iPhone 04.01.13_G (1.1.1). I`m trying to unlock it with the solution form this page: http://iphone.unlock.no/
The problem starts with anySIM.
At the beginning everything is ok"
- "Copying Firmware... Please Wait"
but when te message is shown: "Starting the CommCenter"
the sign of the WiFi connection dissapears and the "E" sign (Edge?) appears. I have waited 20min but nothing happend. After iPhone restart anySIM tells me as soon as "Copying Firmware" is finished, that he is unable to unlock my phone.
I made a restore of the soft with iTunes and when I`m starting the procedure form the very begining (first I`m doing bypass activation and prepare phone for software inst. --> AppSnapp) the "E" sign apperas again....
Please help me :)
PS. How to check thai unlock is still possible?. What are the symptoms of broken/bricked iPhone?
