NEC's VersaPro VY10A/C-4 laptop lasts 14.5-hours on a single charge
NEC's latest VersaPro UltraLite Type VC won't appeal to any hardcore gamers or mobile movie cutters, but the casual joe (or jane) will likely find its hardware plenty capable of handling those everyday tasks. What's more is that this sucka claims a whopping 14.5-hours of life if you utilize the extended battery, which is pretty impressive for a 12.1-incher. Unfortunately, details are fairly slim on actual configurations, but word on the street has the VY10A/C-4 packin' an Intel U7500 Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of RAM, a 40GB hard drive and your choice of Windows XP or Vista. Take a look at the oh-so-tough outer shell after the jump.

If it's designed to maximize battery life, why does it have a HDD? I thought flash drives were all the rage these days.
I was thinking the same thing.
Because ssd costs an arm and an leg.14hours is ALOT already.
SSDs aren't THAT pricey (at least for a 32 gig sammy drive). I value my arm and leg at much more than $400, thank you very much. Way more than a standard drive, but not much relative to the entire cost of a tricked out $3k ultraportable.
what about availability (in europe) and price?
... i want one!!!
wait for Dynamism to put this up on their site.
Nice piece! (sucka)
For basic stuff it looks like it would rock, and leaving the charger at home means it's even more portable!
$2.5k , I knew there had to be a downside.
finally!!!! laptop manufacturers are taking battery life serious. I would definitely pick one of these up if the 14 hour battery life is true.
well, now that I see the above posters 2.5k price ... forget about it. At least we know it is possible =(
I paid $2400 for my current laptop and I get a whopping 45 minutes. It's also 8lbs.
This NEC looks brilliant. Maybe not uber-stylish, but it looks like it's ready to work, and that's all I need.
yea if this was under 1k, I'd buy it tomorrow. But charging a huge premium like that just for battery life...not cool...
I've had the opportunity to handle a pre-production version of one of these at work. The most surprising thing about them is how incredibly light they are.
I have a 15.4" MacBook Pro - 2.4GHz Core 2, and 4GB of RAM - been really happy with it, sometimes get over 5 hours of runtime off the installed battery. 14 hours might be nice, but if you needed the extra performance/graphics / screen, etc...then you could just carry a couple extra LiIon batteries and you would easily have 14 hours, and not have to compromise...paying +$2400 for this 1.2GHz 12.1" laptop simply does not make sense.
