New Tachikoma spider robot on the loose
Ghost in the Shell fans, unite. Your favorite killer spider is back once more, as Bandai is delivering a newfangled version which stands 9.5-centimeters high and connects to your PC via USB. Apparently, this creature comes bundled with software which enables it to play back voice messages and fire up mini-games when it's not emitting sounds through the built-in speaker or catching your eye with its integrated LEDs. Unfortunately, it looks like this creature won't actually be uncaged until next February, but that'll give you some time to save up the ¥13,440 ($115) that you'll need come launch day.

"I, for one, welcome our diminutive, yet still respectfully terrifying, robotic spider overlords."
Corrected version:
I, for one, welcome our copulating, yet still respectfully horny, robotic spider overlords.
Juice @ Oct 12th 2007 12:36PM
Looks like something Tim Burton created.
futurepastnow @ Oct 12th 2007 12:40PM
I must buy this.
Samo @ Oct 12th 2007 9:47PM
Must... Buy... Now....
I heart GITS and GITS:SAC
MegaZone @ Oct 13th 2007 7:02AM
I must have this.
Avatr @ Oct 12th 2007 12:45PM
Never before have I wanted something quite so useless quite so much!
kevin @ Oct 12th 2007 12:52PM
If only it had a camera built into the white orbs on the head that tracks motion I'd buy one.
StrangeBum @ Oct 12th 2007 1:31PM
I'll take two.
But I wish that they would have made them more interactive, with cameras in the eye-orbs. Or something. How cool would it be, if the technology was readily available enough to where we could hook them up to our computers via USB and chat with the machine itself.
Or program it to do specific tasks at dedicated times or something.
bombastinator @ Oct 12th 2007 7:24PM
sounds like the opening line to "a boy and his dremel kit" Buy a couple in case you slip with the grinder wheel
Yubastard @ Oct 12th 2007 1:38PM
yeah, but, does it play doom?
j/k seriously, is it a robot in the sense that it actually moves around the desk?
takuma @ Oct 12th 2007 5:47PM
More importantly,
will it blend?
(on a related note, I want!!!!)
Yubastard @ Oct 13th 2007 6:00AM
LOL you hit it right thurr :)
tijs @ Oct 14th 2007 6:06AM
hm.. the robots in the movie "Ghost in the shell" looks the same..
nxtiak @ Oct 12th 2007 1:53PM
OMG, That thing is so damn awesome!
liin @ Oct 12th 2007 2:39PM
Cool spidy? Maybe I should take that what-do-you-see-in-this test again. I keep seeing a human-like face robot, with eyes, nose, mouth, and even ears, walking in a twister-game position, thrusting its probe shamlessly. Fugly. No?
Asher69 @ Oct 12th 2007 3:24PM
Yeah... that dude's definitely an 'outie'. :P
rai @ Oct 12th 2007 2:04PM
All we need now is the pod to freeze our booze..
Nick @ Oct 12th 2007 2:08PM
Must have now
Jason Stewart @ Oct 12th 2007 2:19PM
Cute. But will it blend?
trancer @ Oct 12th 2007 2:30PM
with its annoying voice? i will pass. looks awesome though!
AndrewNeo @ Oct 13th 2007 2:01AM
The voices aren't annoying in Japanese..
ewen whose army? @ Oct 12th 2007 2:51PM
so cool - must have. then must have 11 more. so they can talk to each other and develop a conscience and self awareness then theorize themselves to the point that they all must be destroyed for the safety of mankind.
then... i want another.
Matt E. @ Oct 12th 2007 4:02PM
ROTFLMAO! You hit it right on the head. Yeah, these should be integrated with the old furby tech, then let learning, communication, and self awareness commence!
Yubastard @ Oct 13th 2007 6:00AM
LOL I agree hehe GITS is so seriously awesome... I amaze myself everytime I see it. really, grown up stuff...
feffrey @ Oct 12th 2007 2:59PM
I was so sad at the end of GIS snd Gig, with the death of the Tachikoma's. I was mess for days!
Then I saw the 3rd movie and jumped out and down for joy when the Major manged to re-build them.
ScottKin @ Oct 13th 2007 3:44AM
Evidently, you haven't see "Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society!
Quick synopsis: After the ending events in 2nd Gig, Motoko leaves Section 9 to go "on her own", doing her own investigations (she comments that with the team structure of Section 9 she now finds herself less free to take action, etc. If you'll remember that Motoko and the AIs of the Tachikomas were trying to save the "ghosts" of the citizens of Dejiima on to "The Net" - well, a few of the AIs of her favorite Tachikomas get saved on "The Net" and get their AI put back into 2 of the remaining Tachikomas.
You REALLY need to see GITS:SAC-SSS!
easymac30 @ Oct 12th 2007 3:20PM
Scary, but not nearly as much as the spider-bots in Minority Report.
olsonick @ Oct 12th 2007 4:45PM
I hope it's full of servos so it sounds ghetto-robotic.
MEEfO @ Oct 12th 2007 4:04PM
It looks like a toilet.
CJ @ Oct 12th 2007 4:11PM
Looks like a blue toilet with legs!
JOE KINCHELOE @ Oct 15th 2007 11:47AM
Wait! ...last time I checked spiders had 8 legs!?!
Tachikomatic @ Oct 12th 2007 4:57PM
There is a god!
Sirocco @ Oct 12th 2007 5:06PM
Yea, and my bug spray is on the loose too.
Nick Gold @ Oct 12th 2007 5:11PM
I want this thing so bad -- anyone know who is likely to import these to the USA?
Don @ Oct 12th 2007 6:00PM
Love it. Want it. got to GITS it :).
Bloobie @ Oct 12th 2007 6:57PM
Sayonara, Batoh-san...
Zhalfim Deyn @ Oct 12th 2007 8:53PM
but does it move? that would be pretty sweet...
I think I might pick one up anyway...
Deuz Augustine @ Oct 12th 2007 9:28PM
I need this for my girlfriend. Wow.
feffrey @ Oct 13th 2007 12:21AM
wait, do you mean you need to give this to your girlfriend or this is your girlfriend?
Deuz Augustine @ Oct 13th 2007 12:39AM
I mean I need to give this to my girlfriend. She loves GitS and the Tachikomas in particular. I honestly don't know much about the series, but it's been good from what I've seen.
I assure you I do not find USB-powered, disturbingly sentient yet adorable robot spiders to be sexually arousing.
jboze84 @ Oct 13th 2007 12:28AM
Here's a video of it in action. Looks pretty cool! I want one for my desk at work!

now we need to find some natural oil to give it...
naser @ Oct 13th 2007 8:23AM
Looks sweet, but I ain't spending 115 USD on that blue anime paraphernalia. Thats like a months feed for myself and other 3-rd World Country students alike.
Deoki @ Oct 16th 2007 2:08PM
