Although there's still no official word from Microsoft about the
Xbox 360 Arcade, we've just received a second picture of a boxed unit sitting on the shelves of a retail store: this time in a Methuen, MA store, only miles away from
the unit spotted in Haverhill. New details include a Harry Potter / Lego Star Wars back, along with details on included games -- we can make out Uno, Pac-Man, Luxor 2, and two other indistinguishable logos. The closeness of the two spottings indicates that this early leak is the fault of whoever put a pallet on a truck without marking it with the correct ship date. In that case, don't expect an
early announcement from Microsoft.
[Thanks, Emanuel E.]
Does it have an HDMI port?
Why would you want an HDMI port on something that isn't even meant for that?
Huh? Why is the Xbox 360 not meant for HDMI? I need another Xbox 360 in another room of my house and the TV has HDMI. I also need a memory card to move profiles around. This Xbox 360 Arcade is perfect for me if it has HDMI.
hey do you guys know if the arcade will support backwards compatability? or do I need the HD for that?
we have them at my wally world (not on the floor, unlike targay we can read street dates). the side of the box lists the difference between arcade/pro/elite, and lists hdmi as 'sold separately' for arcade/pro. so, i would assume it has the port.
Yes
65nm anyone?
Does it come with Lego Star Wars and a Harry Potter game? Or are those just pictures on the box?
What about a hard drive?
I could have swore I just saw $300 premium systems for brand new at amazon.com the other day.
Why doesn't the "spotter" take one for the team and buy the Xbox 360 Arcade, unbox it, and then return it.
We;d know i it had HDMI if they did that...
Because not everyone blows 300 bucks for shits and giggles
You do know you can return things at Target... full refund for shits and giggles?
LMAO, if it were me, I would buy it and unbox it for the "shit and giggles," then resell it on eBay and tell everyone it was featured on Engadget. LOLOLOL
LOLOLOL ?! what is that, laughing out loud, out loud, out loud ? Where are you, cause there's a lot of echo! :p
Microsoft releasing another SKU without a hard drive. STUPID
Not really, i doubt many parents who buy this for younger kids will want to use the hard drive, and if so they can always buy one.
you're right they're so stupid, if only they packed a harddrive with every sku like Sony then they'd have more success like the ps3.
oh, wait.
This would be the 8th SKU (at least) for the 360. This one is aimed at the kiddies (or parents) who do not understand the benefits of having a HDD as part of their console.
At least this one comes with a memory card
It's not a question of console success. Having more SKUs with hard drives makes it easier on developers.
That doesn't even make sense. The core is already released, thus developers will have to struggle to develop for consoles without hard drives whether this 360 sku has a hard drive or not.
The poster was clearly talking about it just being stupid to exclude a hard drive for the buyer, not the developers.
I work at a Wal-Mart and we got some in last night, I can take some pics if u all want me 2, inside of it and everything
Please do so, then reply here.
Hmm.. that's about twenty minutes from where I live. I should head in that direction and see if they still have one. I would buy it to unbox it and return it. I just picked up a PS3 60GB so I'm not sure my wife would be very understanding about a second console in less than 24 hours. :) And, I will say it now.. you can go ahead and save the comments about me being a jackass for buying a PS3.. I wanted full backward compatibility and BR for my Bravia LCD. I just don't feel like dealing with RRoD and I think the '08 lineup for PS3 looks pissa.
So, you'll be enjoying your paperweight until that pissa '08 lineup appears?
I don't particularly understand why people say that. I mean, it would work well as a paperweight.. but I assume I would enjoy it more if it was hooked up to the TV. What exactly should I be excited about for the '08 xbox lineup? Seems like they blew their load this year. And everything good for Xbox right now is the same old thing: BioShock, Halo3, Orange Box.. run around and shoot.
BioShock is FAR from run and shoot.
Same scenario. Won't buy a 360 until I can be sure to get a 65nm process; bought a PS3 for Blu-Ray on my 52" Bravia LCD (still don't own a game).
Please will you Toune? please?
well guys I tried buying them but because the store is on soft opening its not actually on sale. The Electronics guytold me it was and that was at 11am. when I send the pics in one of the Editors got in contact with me and when I went back they told me no sale until Oct. 17th. So when that comes around and Engadget is still interested (Paul you got my E-Mail) I will buy one for shits and giggles unbox the thing and bring it back. Will post all the pics if interested.
At least there is an (un)official release date on the thing now.
Emanuel
Does anyone know if this comes with component AV cables? That would really be the only sticking point for me. Thanks.
Earlier photos had a comparison chart (to help those poor poor grandmothers who can't make a decision between 3 similar products... unlike shampoo and just about every other product on earth.) I digress... the comparison chart did not have Component Cables listed on the included AV Pack. So Composite only. Or you can use HDMI. Or you can buy an HD AV Pack...but then you might as well just buy the Pro version.
God 360 is such a load of cack, it looks like something from the 80's, who the hell designed that thing. Looking at it 2day in PC World, not taken much notice before but on closer inspection it's a real nasty piece of plastic. Do people really put this thing where they can see it. The game that was on it looked ok, Airborne or something but overall package must surly be for kids, although the game looked like it must be for adults. I presume this Arcade version has been totally redesigned. MS sure do love their cheap plastic thank god they don’t try developing any software what the hell would that look like.
Both these stores are new stores and most likely the staff is brand new. Thats how they ended up on the floor early.
Am really confused -- this comes with a memory card, but no hard drive, no? And the memory card is... 512 MB, yeah? But I'm guessing the demos for both Harry Potter and Lego Star Wars are bigger than 512 MB (probably each), so... why did they wind up on the back of the box again?
Anyway, yeah, take it from somebody trying to unload a second-hand Core system, nobody wants it without the damn hard drive -- some people are interested, but only because they were gonna buy the bigger one (separately) anyway and can't find a used Elite. I can't blame them. Probably close to half the time I've spent on my 360 so far has been with XBLA titles and demos (love the demos!). You're cheating yourself if you limit your box to 512 MB.
I saw The 360 Arcade console at my local walmart today, I would have taken a picture but i figured there were enough of the already to prove its existence. I also saw an 80GB Xbox360 HDD which I hadn't heard anything about, but I might have just missed the announcement on that one
Guys, stop complaining. This is the box for people who just want to play games.
There were two big problems with the Core 360:
- It didn't come with a memory card, so you need to add $30 just to make it usable (assuming you like to save your games)
- No wireless controller
Essentially, the Core 360 was $300 (after price drop) once you added a memory card, so for $50 more you got a Pro with a wireless controller and a HDD.
Now the Arcade 360 is $80 cheaper than the Pro, and you can add a HDD later if you want for $100 - you come out $20 more expensive but get a memory card and some arcade games in return. That's a pretty decent deal.
Plus, at $270, it's pretty competitive with the Apple TV (and other media extenders), but you can play games on it too.
You are better off buying a PS3. You know it, I know it EVERYONE knows it
@Billy, About the 360, it looks like something from the 80's.
And the PS3 Looks like a toaster from the 70's..... is that all you got!!!
What if it has like flash memory maybe like 4 gb
I also saw one of these today at Target, I should have taken a picture or asked a employee if I could buy it.
lol i saw that today at target lol...by the way i live in methuen
First one shows up on eBay. Item number: 150172631217
