HP launches new low-power PCs, recycling program
HP unveiled a couple new desktops, a new monitor and a slick recycling program in China Taiwan today, and our boys from Engadget Chinese were on the spot just as you'd expect. The HP Pavilion S3260 low-power desktop has a peak power consumption of just 45W but still rocks an Athlon X2 BE-2350 dual-core processor, 256MB NVIDIA 8400GS graphics, 1GB of RAM, a 320GB disk, a multi-format memory card reader, a dual-layer burner and three years of on-site support for an estimated price of NT$29,900 yuan ($3,982 $917). HP was also showing off the 24-inch 2308 LCD, which pivots from portrait to landscape, and the Pavilion m9090 multimedia computer, which sports an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2GB of RAM, a 500GB disk, and 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT graphics, for the insane price of NT$49,900 yuan ($6,646 $1531). Topping it all off is the recycling program, in which HP will take in five old PCs and "re-assemble" them into a new PC to be donated to disadvantaged families. Considering the prices of HP's new PCs, we're assuming everyone in China qualifies as "disadvantaged," so here's hoping that program gets up to speed soon. No word on when we'll see these hit the States, but we'll pretty certain those of you looking to drop six grand on a machine can find other options.
Update: Sorry, got some signals crossed through machine translation -- these are launching in Taiwan, and the prices are in Taiwanese dollars, not yuan, which explains a lot.

So I guess that model is running off of 45W too, huh?
I think that's in Taiwan, not China. The currency is also Taiwan dollars, not Chinese Yen.
China does not use the Yen, that's Japan. Also, I don't understand your post at all.
If you guys are talking about me, Which I don't think you are, I'm talking about Power Wattage and hot models...
Dear editors,
The big board behind the computers say, "Taiwan's first environment-friendly PCs." It says Taiwan, not China. They're a little different in my opinion.
To Ben,
my post is just to add up that the news came from Taiwan. It's a typo for Yang, cuz it's sounds similar to me.
Dear Jerry,
"Yang" is still wrong, you must have made another type for "yuan".
Dear What?
You just made a typo for typo.
@yal5717
You just made a typo for "what?"...

I wonder if she has a tramp stamp of another one of those HP stickers...
Well, she got my attention.
wow, she's pretty
I think she is pretty too, but she needs to lose the stickers...
keep the stickers, lose the dress! ;)
is that a towel shes wearing??
sweet!
damn she's hot. I marry her and bring her over to the US in a minute.
What makes you think she cares to marry you? She most likely goes out with some dude who gives her more money than you earn in a whole year...
She's actually half-Asian half-Caucasian, so she probably spends part-time in US anyway.
Well I make some pretty phat cash. Not like Tiger Woods cash but plenty to make her want to marry me. She might not like the pre-nup terms but maybe I'd get bored with her before the big day anyway.
Is her Caucasian half also an Olsen?
How many Mac Pros can you buy with U$D 6646!!!???
By my estimates, 2.
"It's in Taiwan, not China." ...
Just this part is enough to clarify it. No need to drag politics into this.
Hey Nilay... You made a big mistake on the article.. I read mandarin.. It says Taiwan on the backboard not China, two completely different country, I know some Taiwanese people.. They will not be happy if you confused them with China(PRC). Taiwan(ROC) is a democratic country allied to the US, but China...=Communism...
I love engadget.com so I am writing this comment:
I hate to say it, but if you can't read those Chinese characters on the board behind the computers, please do not write unconfirmed/false information to engadget.com readers. That truly hurt your credibility. At least, next time please try to confirm with your information source.
On the board it says: HP Taiwan's first low-power PC...blah blah blah..
And the price is in New Taiwan Dollars. 29900 NTD is about $915 USD but not $3982 as you posted to the readers.
FYI: the "yuan" mentioned in the post, please check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_yuan for more information.
And China uses simplified Chinese characters but not the traditional Chinese characters (used ONLY in HK and Taiwan) shown behind the girl.
That's right, I complete agree with you...
i think editor make a big mistake, that's taiwan dollar, not chinese yuan, so, the price for the computer is actually around US$1,500 not US$6,000!
and by reading the banner, it said : HP Taiwan first green low-power computer.
Engadget goofed!!! LOL
just few corrections
1. I believe this is in Taiwan, not China since the characters are in Traditional Chinese and not simplified Chinese
2. the currency is NTD and not yuan.
Wow, HP-branded anorexics... Apple sure didn't think of THAT one first.
Somebody buy her a Big Mac! I want my electronics thin, not my women.
This site lists them at 899 euro, or a little under USD1300

I'd totally hit that
I don't care whether it's Yen, Yang, or Yuan. It's just not important to me.
Does it come with that girl?
Only 45W PEAK?! Not idling? Is that even possible for a modern computer?
I'm sure 45W is possible. The last system that I built and measured power usage was an AMD X2 5200, all-in-on MB/onboard gfx, 80plus PSU, 1 hdd, 1 dvd. That ran around 45W idle, and about 80W loaded, so I'm sure with lower specs and energy efficient hardware peak usage could come down to the 45W range.
actually, she's a friend of mine in Taipei ... father jordanian, and mother chinese. Her English is terrible and her Chinese is perfect (she grew up here in Taiwan). And, she's single, gentlemen... and if you, uh, prefer the male persuasion, she has a brother.
I just need a name - my Taiwanese connection, Mr. Go Ogle, will help me track her vitals down.
I've got a sixth sense about these things, but I can just tell that girl wants me bad and if wasn't for her billionaire boyfriend, she'd be all over me in a second!!
Wow, theres a lot of anti-chinese sentiment on engadget.com. Not only the negative remarks about Chinese people in general, but also bashing all Chinese mp3 players as cheap, unworthy knockoffs.
I agree with you, Alex. Those comments are TOTALLY out of line. China has been producing high-quality toys and electronics without short-circuits, lead paint, and unsafe tires. Oh wait...
HP has some really cute girls
more picture of the girl please
I'd re-cycle her program.
More pics of the model, she's stunning! I can learn to speak chinese, well enough of it at least... Wonder if she's on FaceBook....
Branding a human being sucks. Spokesperson, fine, but that sticker trick sinks my heart.
She is so hot! ill buy that whatever it is! :D
That girl is Hot.
You must be one cheap guy.
