Nyko introduces Intercooler for Nintendo's Wii
Just in case your Wii has suddenly and unexpectedly become some sort of flamethrower in recent weeks, Nyko is introducing a cooling solution of its very own. Granted, we don't really expect that most Wii consoles will actually need this thing, but we're sure the "better safe than sorry" crowd will have a field day. Regardless, the clip-on device won't require any fancy modifications to operate, and while it will only run you $14.99, your money is probably better spent elsewhere (read: anywhere).

Don't you mean, it'll turn "into" a flamethrower after installing one of these?
mushrooshi @ Oct 15th 2007 9:48PM
This is cool. Not to mention it doesn't use the USB, but rather draws formt he power supply.
AndrewP @ Oct 15th 2007 9:57PM
Umm, what? Isn't that the problem with their products? Have they learned nothing since http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/27/nyko-intercooler-scorches-xbox-360-consoles/

HOLY MOLEY I was like "Hehe, Nyko sucks, this one pwns" and then I notice in big bold letters "Kyko" and I am like OMGWTFBBQ.
wow, this may or may not be good.

Why would anyone buy a Nyko Intercooler after the disastrous 360 model?
Sam @ Oct 15th 2007 9:56PM
Umm.. Intercoolers are what caused the RROD on the 360's. But having it tap into the power supply it completely messes up the hardware.
Basically, Intercoolers are useless. Just leave you system in an open area. And maybe even use a small stand to lift the system off the ground for better ventilation.

I thought this would run off the 'sensor bar' power, since it has long been known to be nothing more than an infrared beacon. One could reclaim the plug from the 'sensor' and attach a fan, and reuse the LED part with some batteries... Perfect product reuse! (except for the cord in between)
skadyster @ Oct 15th 2007 10:15PM
Somehow I doubt the sensor bar port has nearly enough power to run one of these things. LEDs require incredibly small amounts of electricity to power, whereas fans suck down a fair amount of juice. Regardless, this is at best a waste of money and at worst a device that could add extra load to the power supply and cause problems.
AndrewP @ Oct 15th 2007 10:35PM
Solomon, this is brilliant. There are 5 LED's on each side of the sensor bar. I'm sure there would be enough power for a small fan.
Also, many people already are using products like this http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=101.
Just wait, in 6 months you'll see a "sensor bar port" powered-fan, wireless sensor bar combo pack on store shelves near you.

my wii actually runs pretty hot if i keep it in standby. i'm not gonna buy a cooler for it, though. i just keep it in red-light status.
Allen @ Oct 16th 2007 12:17AM
I always unplug my wii, so it doesn't run wiiconnect 24 which is the cause of hotness
Simon @ Oct 15th 2007 10:34PM
uh oh..rumbled
good job sherlock
painty @ Oct 15th 2007 11:20PM
nah...Engadget just doesn't like you

Nyko - If it doesn't cause a fire we won't be making a Rev 1!
John Doe @ Oct 15th 2007 11:31PM
My laptop gets hotter then the Wii. Translation == Umm why?
Robert Daviau @ Oct 16th 2007 12:38AM
Really getting tired of this shit, enough with the cooler products already. We pay enough for Next Gen consoles, keep them off the damn carpet, give them lot's of ventilation and we should not require "coolers" for friggin game consoles, ridiculous.
NewJohnny @ Oct 16th 2007 9:45PM
I'm sure we're just a shade away from cell phone coolers.
Mathieu @ Oct 16th 2007 3:39AM
I just can't wait for the Wiimote cooler ! :)
