Dash Express hits the FCC
Well, would you look at that -- the Dash Express has navigated itself into the FCC's tell-all database. Not much here you didn't already know -- 4.3-inch display, WiFi, cell, and GPS radios, two-way traffic updates and travel-time estimation, and slightly redesigned casing -- but it looks like there's a 400MHz Samsung processor under the hood running a custom Linux build in 128MB of RAM, with 3GB of flash for maps. Hit the read link to nerd it up with some hot RF interference documentation.

I just wanna know if they are releasing the Linux source. All that hardware under the hood, and this thing would be awesome if you could add your own stuff to it.

I might just be naive, but aren't they kinda supposed to because Linux is released under the GPL?

Technically, if they don't change anything they don't have to... Or at least that is how I was told. That's why Linksys had to release the firmware of their routers, once people realized that they were running Linux on them.
The device is going to rock hardcore anyway, but being able to use kismet on the wifi part when I'm driving would be kick-ass.

GSM/GPRS on 850 and 1900, looks like it runs on Cingular's network.

I really am excited about this one. Traffic in LA will suck a little less now.

Jasper Wireless looks to be the company that is powering the GPRS portion of the device.
