Shocking everyone -- especially Engadget readers -- Nokia announced its new
N810 this morning. Details are still incoming, but here's what we know for sure:
- Same 4.13-nch WVGA (800 x 480), 65k color display as the N800, brightness increased by ~20%
- GPS with particular focus on the "context sensitive web" via Ovi
- 2GB internal storage (not including memory cards), ships with maps for use with GPS
- Has WiFi (802.11b/g), does not have WiMAX
- Bluetooth (2.0+ EDR) DUNs to capable phones, totally Foleo-like
- 400MHz OMAP 2420 CPU, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM
- Integrated frontal camera, ambient light sensor, mini USB 2.0, hardware lock switch
- Plays back video: 3GP, AVI, H.263, H.264, MP4, ASF, WMV, MPEG-1/4, Real video; audio: MP3, WMA, AAC, AMR, AWB, M4A, MP2, Real audio, WAV
- Battery life aimed at 4 hours of "typical use" (movies, music, internet access, etc.), 10 hours music only, and up to 2 weeks totally idle time, and 5 days active standby ("improved compared to previous generation devices")
- Runs Nokia's Linux Maemo interface (duh)
- 5 x 2.83 x 0.55-inches, 7.97 ounces
- Ships in November, $479
Is the battery accessible? ie. can I carry a spare battery with me? That would be huge for me.
The battery can be easily removed and replaced with another.
I've been searching for the N810 in stores in my area and no one has them. Anyone else having problems finding them?
I agree with Jeremy but maybe for a different reason. I don't want to talk on this thing - I've got a handphone! But I would like to use it over 3G when the wireless link is not available - eg on the train, near the beach etc etc
what means "UP TO?" 2 GB of internal memory? r they 2 have different models of the n810?
Bluetooth profiles?
Why wi-fi bound? I want to be able to use this thing EVERYWHERE is PocketSurfer 2 really the only option?
I am using a 770 (paid $130) and love it, I was answering email to my boss while in a meeting, he replied back to me and asked "aint' you suppose to be in the meeting?" and told him abou the 770, he then said "get me one of those" without knowing what it looks like.
Nokia is making it clear that this is not a smartphone, it's an internet tablete, so do not compare the features, it should be the functionalities, for those hopping around, in and out meeting, traveling and want instant access to your stuff from anywhere no device can offer the same, you can even access your PC at home or office via VNC, can your iThouch do that?
Someone said make it cell phone capable? I wouldn't want one then. They charge you for everything on cell phones... All we need is another overpriced cell phone that is useless to the non cell phone user...
I own a n800. It is really close to perfect!
The screen seems to get roughed up by the
stylus but you don't notice when the screen
is on... Youtube is choppy. The nicest feature
is nokia's Maemo OS; The OS makes the device
so wonderful to own (I have a iGo bluetooth
keyboard I want to use a mouse!). The OS _IS_
beautiful!
Can someone please tell me if i can watch youtube in full screen mode, because i am a huge anime fan and i need full screen like the archos 605 wifi and another thing can someone please tell me if i can watch other sites that support flash and divx videos there are other sites way better than youtube. youtube sucks. All the good things are gone or has a misleading title like naruto episode 23 when its not even naruto. I need sites like stage 6 crunchyroll and youtube all at full screen mode
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The screen on the nokia n810 is perfect so I am really hoping that it can enlarge youtube videos to full screen and if it can't then can someone make an app that can. The ipod touch and the archos 605 wifi have those advantages and they run faster. Most young people, use 90 percent of the internet on (free time) not homework time ... watching videos. the screen is 4.13" so youtube videos are what? 1.5 in or more. That is pathetic, i would rather..................Archos 605 wifi?.......wait!! it's only flash 7 is that even good enough for every flash based website? CPU IS FASTER and it's 30 I repeat 30 frames per second. That's good quality.

What's the matter with you guys? N810 is not a phone. If you want a phone get Nokia n95 8GB. Thw N810 is a tablet but if you have internet you have phone (Skype) and for only $30 per YEAR you can talk unlimited in US and Canada for a frikin' YEAR. You want to pay your cell phone company hundreds of dollars per month? No problem. YOU ARE BETTER OFF WITH N810.
Can you charge it with normal Nokia charger used for all their phones (& fo Jedi laser sword as well ;))?
"Can you charge it with normal Nokia charger used for all their phones ?" DENgerous, good question.
Is it true that there is no more FM receiver on the n810 compare to n800?

I am doing an assignment on it and i need help please help me
but on a whole i think this device is quite neat and trendy
Stage6:
Didn't work. When I go to the site, the player area is only for downloading the movie. I was expecting it to re-direct to the installed real player... maybe no divx support.
Charger:
Yeah u can use ur normal phone charger for the n810. I have an AC-4X myself (output dc 5v, 890mA).
FM receiver:
The software downloaded and installed properly. I even downloaded the regional frequencies for UK but none of the channels worked :( even when i put the headphones in (sometimes these are used as the external antenna)...
Youtube:
Really good experience. If u increase the flash rendering capability to highest, u might notice some frames skipping but not that much.
CPU:
It's just an overclocked version of n800 ;)
My 2 complaints so far:
1) Upgrading the OS2008
If u want Skype installed then the device will ask u to upgrade the OS from v1.2007.42-18 to v1.2007.42-19 U can message me if u don't know where the Swap Key is! ;)
Ok so I did that, then for some reason I wanted to change my default map to UK and the (slow) download installed a corrupted on the internal 2GB card which resulted in mayhem. The internal card got locked so i couldn't install more applets... horrible! U'd think that rebooting the device would help, well nope! It's persistent, crikey! I managed to find a technical article on "internettablettalk.com" entitled "Updated OS, Internal Card locked" but by then, I had installed the latest and old OS version so many times that the problem had sorted itself out... no more lock.
2) The GPS!
Does it work? I already paid a lot for the tablet and i don't want to pay for the GPS to work. Was it a separate deal? I don't want a full fledge driving around 3D help thing, I just want to know my current location on e.g. google map, that's all... go figure, hopefully some genius from maemo.org will help us out.
This may sound like a dumb question but does anyone know the camera resolution on this phone. I know it has a built in camera but the resolution is not listed NOWHERE. Sorry using up my dumb question of the year token..lol
Don't wanna break ur hopes here, but it's not a good camera. Am gonna guess based on what i saw, 640x480... it's like a laptop webcam.
Thanks Tash guess I'll be passing this one up, I love nokia but they never want to put all you want into one phone..lol. They give the N95 a 5meg camera but no keyboard...this one has a keyboard but the wackest camera on the market lol. Might have to think about this one for a minute.
Can't wait to get ahold of this. Would be a killer app if it were aso a cell phone
