We'd
heard it was
coming, and now it's here -- AT&T's
HSUPA network is now accessible to consumers who pony up for a Sierra AirCard 881 LaptopConnect card. The PC Card still supports HSDPA download speeds of 600 to 1400Kbps, but the upgrade to HSUPA means users can pump bits back up the tubes at 500 to 800Kbps as well. Customers will be able to score a free AirCard with a two-year data plan of $60 a month or higher until November 3 -- which is a shame for anyone outside New York, since HSUPA won't roll out to AT&T's other "select markets" until "later this fall."
The coverage is awful for GSM 3G in the US
EDGE has coverage like EVDO does. EDGE about equals Sprint's EVDO actual it seems. - 200Kbps/55kbps Verizon EVDO is frigging awesome (when you use their latest cards on Rev A) 800kbps/250kbps
All that said - bring all of it on, the more the better, then give me an UBER card that will connect to anything I got a sub for.
Most large cities have HSDPA coverage, just don't leave town or you are back on Edge.
that is true, sam, for the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico... I'm gonna move to the center of Puerto Rico (jungle) and I might have to skip ATT's 3G service... might as well go EVDO, it covers the whole Island
The Tilt also supports HSUPA.
I already have "unlimited data" with my AT&T iPhone. So I can just buy one and plug it in, right?
It worked on mine. If you have unlimited data, you should be able to just plug it in and you're good to go.

Uhh, 3G coverage is EXCELLENT in just about every major city. Seriously, don't spread misinformation.
Have you been in EVERY major city and personally tested it? Don't spread misinformation yourself...
AT&T may have pretty maps that show blanketed coverage, but it's real world usage that's on the line here, and I personally have been in a few markets in major cities where EDGE is the only coverage...
Coverage is a funny thing. If its where you need it, its great. If not, its terrible. I live in Maine. Verizon's EVDO is the best for me here and mostly when I travel. I'm told if I lived out west I'd be happier with Sprint's coverage. AT&T/CINGULAR/NAMEOFTHEDAY just angers me too much.
I can say this: My EVDO Rev A internal notebook card gives me better than DSL speeds most places I go.
Living in London I get 1.8Mb/s almost everywhere on my HTC tyTn. Once thats hooked up to my laptop im away.
Wireless *fast* internet is something which seems to be catching on with consumers here as well. Nearly all networks now are offering HSDPA internet access for under £10 a month, either by itself or with existing contracts.
Nice job guys. Maybe next time you'll show the right card. AT&T's only offering the a type II 881.
Waauw? With '3' in Denmark you can get unlimtied 7,2Mbps HSPDA for $60.
Don't bother arguing over coverage, if you have it, it's great, if you don't then it isn't. Personally I'm in Western NY, we've had EVDO here for about 5 years now, however ATT/Cingular has somehow ignored us. So ATT sucks for high speed if your in NYS (not NYC).
For those care here is the coverage list.

FWIW, AT&T claims that Buffalo is getting 3G in the next week or so, and they'll be rolling East through Rochester, Syracuse, etc. every week after that.
I don't think those numbers are right. HSUPA is rated for 5.76Mbps, or ~720KBps. Big B, not little b. There's a big difference.
It's wrong in the press release. Even HSDPA is faster than that.
^^^^^^^ that is the whole reason I started reading the comments. Cannot believe it took all those posts with people professing information to notice. I was wondering if the information was wrong.
