Alienware announces AlienExchange trade-in program
While they're still far from eMachines-territory, those in the market for an Alienware system can now knock a few bucks off their desktop or laptop of choice -- if they're willing to fork over some of their old gear, that is. That can be done as part of the company's just-launched AlienExchange program, which will let you trade in everything from cellphones and MP3 players to game consoles and digital cameras to computers and monitors in exchange for an AlienWare gift card or a plain old check. Those trading in their old Alienware system will also get an additional $200 on top of the regular trade-in value as a bonus. If that sounds like reason enough to clean out your closet, you can hit up the link below to get a quote on your gear, after which Alienware will send you a shipping label to send it all in.

You're betting selling your stuff (on Ebay for example) as these programs are big ripoffs.
Fatima @ Oct 22nd 2007 5:56PM
hahahaha..what a rip off they give you like 20% of what your stuff is worth.
mnit @ Oct 22nd 2007 5:58PM
And it isn't just a cheque, its a cheque alongside an invoice for a new alienware PC.
Peppie @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:03PM
If it sounds too good to be true...

Wow after alienware screwing me over not once but twice, i can't believe people actually still buy stuff from them. Their customer support is a joke i called for a problem they say we will email u back with an answer and after two months and 5 calls back to them still no answer.
heyguy @ Oct 22nd 2007 7:26PM
Circuit City has been doing this for a long time, using the same exact service: http://cc.eztradein.com/cc/

They're turning into the Gamestop of computers..

You win one Internet.
ntw1103 @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:09PM
what a joke, my laptop sells for about $800 on ebay, and they say the trade in value is $123 with a carrying case.
ck @ Oct 23rd 2007 2:39PM
They'll probably give it a clean, stick an alien badge on it and sell it to some dope for $5K.
Will @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:19PM
Wow, this is depressing. For kicks I checked what I could get if I traded my old Canon XL2 in and good god... B&H will give me more for it than they will. What a freaking rip off, just like all trade-in programs.
John Cavanagh @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:20PM
Awesome, my $3500 gaming rig is worth $232.96! I
L.M.L.Y.P @ Oct 22nd 2007 7:36PM
230 for my $2k computer ... $20 more than my 6 year old computer... this is a steaL! SELL SELL SELL!
Chris @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:31PM
You could knock about 50% off if you spent 10 minutes learning how to build your own.
Chino B @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:31PM
Biggest rip off ever.
Isaac @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:40PM
Only rich people stupid enough to already buy from alien ware would do this.
Ess2s2 @ Oct 22nd 2007 7:21PM
Just for kicks I listed some of my stuff...Really, what a terrible trade in program, I would be better off taking my stuff to a pawn shop. If Alienware wants to become the company they once were (they started in a garage making gaming computers for people who couldn't afford high priced boutique rigs) they need to take back control from the accountants and start making quality computers for less than the competition.
Dualboot @ Oct 22nd 2007 7:47PM
Ha, I listed my gaming machine with a Core 2 Duo and 2GB or RAM and it came back with $206 in trade in. WTF, I can get five times as much.
Cheap gimmick to get you in the door. I'll stick with my $206, thank you very much!
Ess2s2 @ Oct 22nd 2007 8:06PM
How wonderful, I tried a little test and maxed out all the options, basically listing a brand new, top of the line gaming PC with all of the trimmings. Such a PC would easily cost at least $2000. How much does Alienware want to give you for it?
Wait for it...
Here it comes...
$390. I hope these people burn in hell for trying to rip people off.
Kax02 @ Oct 22nd 2007 8:29PM
I don't even think I could come up with anything more to this. I tried with various things and even gaming consoles. Good to know I can always score $239 for my 360 with games and controllers. haha or better yet $314 for a loaded PS3.

They're idiots. I have a $4,000 laptop which they say is worth $397. Hah!
Mason @ Oct 23rd 2007 1:44AM
Odd cause I have one of those new Santa Rosa Macbook Pros (17inch version) and its giving me 544.35 dollars...
I'm gonna get an Alienware now!!!
Droford @ Oct 23rd 2007 2:33AM
I paid $200 for a Compaq desktop with an AMD Semperon 2800 (2GHZ) processor 3 years ago and probably put another $100 into it with a video card and memory upgrade and they want to give me $150 for it which honestly isn't too bad, but it makes me feel good that I could probably get more for it elsewhere.
egotman @ Oct 23rd 2007 10:21AM
Alienware is using a 'deal' engine from DealTree Inc.
