Sure, Apple's profitability and viability is based on any number of factors, but there's one figure that analysts have been training their calculators on for months that has finally seen the light of day: Apple sold 1,119,000 iPhones in Q4 2007, which ended on September 29th, bringing the grand total to 1,389,000
since launch. That might meet or miss your expectations, but other sales bringing a smile to Jobs' face and a cha-ching to his wallet include a 34% growth in Mac sales year to year and a 17% growth in iPods year to year -- with 10.2 million iPods sold last quarter. The earnings call hasn't started just yet, so hopefully we'll get a few more juicy details on how much AT&T is chipping in to the bottom line these days.
Woot!
Lunch is on Steve!
eh, we all know google will hit the trillion dollar mark.
that i don't doubt.
So how many new AT&T registered Customers in the same time? ;)
so where's the conference call? is anyone getting a feed? it's 6 pm and i'm still getting nothing from Apple's own link. And i pulled off a highway and talked a hotel manager into letting me use her lobby wireless for the purpose. They're starting to look at me a little funny...
Man, Apple did what Google did last week. They didn't just beat Wall Street expectations, they blew the expectations out of the water. Love them or hate them, you have to admit that Apple is one of the best when it comes to selling a product to people. They either create what people want or they tell you what you want. It should come as no surprise that the Directors at Apple have years of experience selling everything from vacations to movies to jeans http://www.newsvisual.com/newsvisual/2007/10/could-apple-pul.html . This is partially what makes the company so good at sales.
Apple low balled their earnings potential. So when they finally announced today everybody rejoiced and brought more stock. Oh how I wished I brought stock back in 2005. They've been doing great business.
Impressive except for the iPhone. They hit 1 million just after the price cut so the extra is not much, great but still a slow down. I know I'm not the only iphone owner to have returned the phone and received a full refund. Are there any figures about returns? Are there any figures about iPhones needing repair and trashed? Still great numbers and great for me financially. As long as idiots keep buying App imacs that have screen problems, iphones that can't even take a call, I'll do well.
"Are there any figures about returns?"
I'm sure you're part of a microscopically tiny, whiny minority.
"iphones that can't even take a call"
Sounds like user error to me.
My iPhone is the best gadget I've ever owned. Maybe you couldn't figure out how to power yours on?
I think the most exciting part is those increased Mac sales... Thats the most important part to me. The iPhone/iPod stuff is nice, but apple has, and always will be, to me, a computer company.....
That being said, I am extremely happy about those numbers!
man, you guys are all apple slaves! I'm not saying that the iPhone isn't really cool, but they didn't exactly buy the best programs. They use google maps instead of google gps, and there is the problem with the bricking and having to sync each time you download something. The internet sucks when off wifi, at least compared to my dad's 2005 Treo 300 on Verizon. Personally, I don't like apple, mostly because they're not as innovative as they're making you believe. Take a look at the LG Prada, and then look at the iPhone. Take a guess at which came out first. I'm betting 99.999% said the iPhone. Wrong. Every time somebody insult your precious "slice of heaven" iPhone, you flip out and act like he's some guy from the stone age. I personally don't like either Microsoft (except for xbox 360) or Apple. But I use Microsft running systems, because they're less expensive and I have a choice between Apple moniter, apple mouse, apple keyboard, apple ipod, apple iTunes, apple QuickTime, apple OS... with microsoft you can use acer, dell, KDS, HP, Toshiba, and all of the other brands that AREN'T apple. But remember, I never once throughout that said that I hated apple. I don't despise the iPhone, I despise it's advertising group. And before you beat me down with you finely white-glossed stick of fruits, let me say that I have used almost every apple product that's hot right now, including the iTouch and the iPhone. Now please, please read this over before bashing it, read it over again, and check out a prada/iPhone or iPod/iRiver comparison photo...
wow a $1000 phone, where is that? I think iphone is more towards grownups with sex indentity crisis and snapy chicks, i dont think i could respect myself if i buy one
I'm in Bangkok, Thailand right now. Last night I cruised through the third floor of the MBK Center, which houses hundreds of booths selling nothing but cell phones. Nearly every booth seemed to have a few iPhones on display. I'll let you guess how many of those were intended for activation on the AT&T network :P
I could not imagine a world were Apple Sells 1 Million Phones a day.
They have one phone product. It is a smart phone product and I could not imagine any phone Apple makes not being an expesive smart phone product.
Nokia makes all kinds of phone.
Good luck Apple. I'll be keeping my E62 for now.
