We suppose the third time's a charm. AT&T and
Napster have quite the history of offering up lackluster deals to customers -- first with that
$14.95 Napster To Go scam on Cingular, then the
free Napster To Go on AT&T -- but they're finally doing it up right and offering wireless downloads from Napster's 5 million strong catalog to AT&T's music-starved subscribers. Right now your options with the carrier are
eMusic for some spendy wireless downloads, or the iPhone. Unfortunately, while Napster bests eMusic on selection, the price remains the same at $7.49 per five songs, and these ain't no DRM-free affair like eMusic. The Napster service will also allow for $1.99 a la carte purchases, something eMusic lacks, and with every purchase you receive an email on your PC to help you download a copy of the track. Verizon and Sprint have quite the jump on AT&T when it comes to over-the-air music downloads, but we'll see if AT&T can start to gain some ground starting early next month when the service launches. Oh, and before you ask: no, Napster won't work on the iPhone.

Napster used to be a great place in the very beggining.
But...as soon as those greedy RIAA bastuds figured out they could sue Napster under the guise of intellectual property/copyright infringment and line their own pockets, they ruined it.
I'm not afraid to admit, I use LIMEWIRE and I doubt I'll ever be spending money on individal songs again. I don't even pay to use the internet to have access to Limewire. I wijack a high speed public internet.
I refuse to put a dime in these RIAA scumbags pockets. As for the artists themselves... I don't see why I should be putting money in their pockets so they can buy fancy sh*t and then turn around and claim they are "richer than me"...especially people like Brittney Spears and T.I.

You're paying them for the work they put into their music...it doesn't matter how much money they have. I would like to think that if I were really talented I would be rewarded for sharing that talent...that mindset just pisses me off...
If you like the artist, and you like their music...buy it!
Allan @ Oct 22nd 2007 10:58AM
David is sort of right... in that you're paying for their work and effort. But if you're trying to tell me that I should be paying these people for their "talent" and the crap that they produce and the stupid top40 stations keep playing... I'd tell you to go climb a tree.
There are very few artists that I choose to support. But I will actually buy a CD if it's something that I feel is worth my $. Of course, everyone has different tastes and different opinions of what may or may not be worth their money. So the concept is right... I just don't think there is that much "talent" out there right now worth paying for...

"If you like the artist, and you like their music...buy it!"
Most sensible comment I've read on here for a long time! Sure use P2P or whatever to sample music, try before you buy etc... but if everyone subscribes to the "idealistic" notion that music should be free then thre's not much of a business to be run there. Yes I disagree with DRM and industry restrictions on what I do with music once Ive bought it, but that's not a valid excuse to steal it! If you are that against DRM (MS/Apple Fairpay/whatever) then go buy a CD...!

and by the way, if you didn't already know that napster won't work on the iphone, please direct your attention to another website. you don't belong here :P
John Doe @ Oct 22nd 2007 11:14AM
Ahh Napster. Just when we thought you couldn't get any less irrelevant, you somehow manage to prove us wrong.
Kevad @ Oct 22nd 2007 5:34PM
Is there any major Mobile Phone Press at CTIA or just a bunch of wannabees who are too afraid to ask AT&T, HTC, Samsung, Microsoft and Palm about the status of Mobile 6 upgrades for the 8525, Blackjack and Treo 750. Are all the web sites unaware of the hundreds of thousands of consumers who have been waiting for over 6 months. Here is a fairly big show, major Keynotes by AT&T and Microsoft and so far nobody is asking, over and over such questions. Its just about the biggest issue in the forums and AT&T support sites. How will Napster work on 3G phones, do we download a .cab, does it need firmware/ROM upgrades, and if so when. Just how will Napster work and on which phones? Does Napster's availability and rollout have anything to do with the long delays for Mobile 6 upgrades on AT&T phones. SOMEBODY THERE ASK THEM AND STAND THERE TILL THEY ANSWWER WITH MORE THAN A HUH?
