CTT-Net intros TouchSense-enabled navigation systems
It's been a while since we last heard about Immersion's TouchSense technology for LCDs, but it looks like the tactile feedback technology has now managed to squeeze itself into one of its biggest potential markets, with CTT-Net now introducing a pair of TouchSense-enabled GPS units. Aimed squarely at the Korean market, the CSN-7040 and CIN-7000 models each boasts 7-inch touch screens, and support for DMB mobile TV, along with the usual array of GPS and PMP features. But, of course, the real selling point is that tactile feedback, which Immersion says will "minimize driver distraction" by reducing the time spent glancing over at the unit. No word on pricing or availability just yet, it seems, or any word of the technology making into GPS units outside of Korea, though we're guessing Immersion is far from giving up on that last point.

Alpine had a system with tactile feedback 2 years ago, so it isn't all that new...
If I haven't heard of it, its new to me!
"Immersion says will 'minimize driver distraction' by reducing the time spent glancing over at the unit"
Um... note to CTT:
If you want to minimize driver distraction, make GUI less shiny
Yeah, i am looking at that and going "ooo! I want it cause it sparkles" I'm sure in driving my distraction would continue...
besides that, i would still like one
A Navigation add-on for a car should be about $100 or less by now (3.5 inch touchscreen)
Leave out the M3 and PMP functions so you can make them cheaper.
I see no reason Navigation devices shouldn't be inexspensive and buyable at typical gas stations or food marts. If they can sell a Boost Mobile cellphone for upwards of $200, buy-on-the-go Navi systems should be possible too.
Looks like HAL 9000 got an upgrade. You can disguise yourself as a clock all you want...
What are you talking about, Dave?
Imagine:
Dave,
Where are you going Dave?
Funny how every time I see a device I would actually buy, the text "Aimed squarely at the Korean market" or some derivative appears in the description.
Honestly, I think the GUI is quite nice. No one complains that their nice, sharp looking BMW interior was too distracting. Also, it's nice to see a in car device that doesn't look like windows 98 vomited all over the gui. Get with the times people.
