Hitachi's consumer PC, RIP: 1978 - 2007
After helping to pioneer the home computer revolution in Japan, Hitachi is bowing out of the consumer PC market due to sluggish sales. They will, however, continue to manufacture server-based computers for businesses while attempting to refocus energies around their core competencies. Of course, with Lenovo, HP, and Dell dominating global (and domestic Japan) sales, things don't look too promising for the likes of NEC or Fujitsu either. Really, what can you expect with desktops this hideous.

"Really, what can you expect with desktops this hideous."
Well Apple seems to be doing fine...

The hideous comment refers to the Fujitsu from the link, not the nice looking Hitachi.

why does EVERY SINGLE engadget article, regardless of original content, turn into an Apple bashing post war?

It will stop once Apple fanbois stop their pro-Apple diatribe in every Microsoft, HTC, Nokia, Symbian, Sony, Linux etc. thread.

Prius used to be very cutting edge - these from '98 had LCD screens with digital connection and dual boot with BeOS!

I'm so shocked over this... Hitachi made PCs?
NovaLand @ Oct 23rd 2007 11:59AM
I sais the very same thing when i earlier this week saw an excavator with the logo HITACHI all over it.. "...And Hitachi make PCs?" (Not this one, but.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:EX5500_Picture_016.jpg )

Ah, Hitachi PC, you will be missed. Remember the Dell 700m? The unusually nice Dell laptop? Yup, that was the Hitachi Prius Gear J long before it was the 700m, and it had a TV tuner to boot. (Though it was all an AOpen white box)
