LG shows off G Platform plasmas with 30000:1 contrast ratio
If a 20.8-inch QXGA LCD was just enough to get your HD juices a-flowin', LG's latest bunch should really get you wound up. On display at FPD International 2007 in Japan, these "G Platform" plasmas claim to trump any other PDPs in the contrast department, as every one of them features a 30,000:1 ratio. Additionally, the company noted that color reproduction has been improved by "optimizing the panels' color phosphors and utilizing dielectrics," and there's also the 100Hz refresh rate to eliminate blur / flicker. Reportedly, the displays will be available in Q4 of this year in 32-, 42-, 50- (HD) and 50- / 60-inch (Full HD) models, but your guess is as good as ours when it comes to pricing.

I thought plasma TVs were dead. A power hog like them (~500W) probably should be dead compared to LCD anyway.
Plasma is still live and kicking until LCD gets stable motion without MoviePlus/100hz that ruins the movie experience.
If my guess is 1 billion dollars, is that still as good as yours?
Probably. I get the feeling that this is one of those "if you have to ask...."
im sure the line is getting closer, but i still see better colors with my plasma than with my lcds.. based on my own opinion of course.. lcds still seem a little washed out.. doesnt matter too much in a dark room, but i like richer colors without having to put it on a vivid setting.. (IMHO)
I sell LCDs and Plasmas every day at work, and this is generally my advice to customers when they ask "What's the difference between LCD and Plasma?". The new X series Sony Bravia's have fantastic colour reproduction, but a few of the others (particularly the entire Sharp Aquos series) do not have the best colour reproduction.
With that said, I would still go for an LCD over a Plasma, because I believe they have a lot of other features or advantages important to me apart from just colour.
Normaly you would have a plasma in a dark room and an lcd in a room with a lot of windows! The lcd are much better than plasma when it comes to operate in a well lit room, on the other hand plasma have better result for a home theater in the basement...
Nah, I say 5 million
Great for viewing egg yolks...
I love my plasma. LCD may be better for the environment, but I can watch a movie on my plasma in a bright room and still enjoy all the HD glory! No contrast problems here.
Would it hurt to put a comma in that number?
