Gateway offers up 22-inch HD2200 / 24-inch FHD2400 LCD monitors
Finding that 30-inch XHD3000 to be a bit too rich for your blood (or just too ginormous for your desk)? Gateway understands, and that's why it's offering up new 22- and 24-inch LCD monitors for those who demand a bit less screen real estate. Up first is the 22-inch HD2200, which features a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, four-millisecond response time and 160-degree viewing angles. The 24-inch FHD2400 delivers 1080p support with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness and an ultra-speedy three-millisecond refresh rate. Moreover, both displays tout Faroudja DCDi video processing, DVI / HDMI / VGA / component jacks and built-in picture-in-picture functionality. As for pricing, the smaller sibling will run you $349.99 while the 24-incher will demand an extra $200, and both of 'em are available from a number of retailers as we speak.

They're both TN panels
Joe_Templeman @ Oct 25th 2007 10:04AM
No they aren't.
You dont get TN panels with 160º viewing angles.

"You dont get TN panels with 160º viewing angles."
Umm.. TN panels are characterized by their fast response times and low viewing angles, ergo it uses a TN panel.

It has a fast response time, but is 160 degrees really considered a low viewing angle? I can't see how it could be, so I can't see how that proves it uses a TN panel.
shamrock593 @ Oct 26th 2007 3:39AM
Spencer, yes 160 is typical for a TN panel and is considered low compared to a typical 178 degree angle produced by a VA panel.
=)

TN FTL.

Now thats news. A 24" panel with a 3ms response time!
The big news is that it must be some sort of PVA monitor, not TN because it states that thats got a 160º viewing angle too!
To have both true colour depth, but not sacrifice the speed...knocks most others out of the water...

Damnit! I just bought their older 22-inch fpd2275w. :(
HineyWipe @ Oct 25th 2007 10:27AM
You think they fixed the squealing-power issues on these?
Mile @ Oct 25th 2007 11:12AM
Squealing Power would make a great name for a band.

I just got the HD2200 and it is amazing, great contrast and amazing colors and the price is very good.
I bought it in F*Y* of Austin, Texas and bring it to Costa Rica as baggage in the plane. You have no idea how nervous I was, but it arrives ok and now is on my desk working perfectly.
T_LO @ Oct 26th 2007 2:32PM
I just got the 24" 2 weeks ago at F*y*'s. Watched the video loop from the apple TV on display and dropped the Samsung 22" in my hand and picked this one up. Simply put, It's freak'in awesome. Haven't had an issue yet. No squealing or any ghosting in games (Oblivion, HL2, total Anihilation... ect). Movies and TV look great too.
Complaints: I had to stretch to really figure something out. The only thing I can come up with is the shiny surface. Never had one that was reflective so it's just taken time to get used to it.
My Machine: Intel E6600/2gb ram/Radeon 1900XT

This monitor is just absolutely amazing....good color reproduction and the faroudja chip makes a ton of difference in scaling...
Why have they never included a Faroudja chip in a monitor before? I have never seen 640x480 scale so well....

I'm in the market for a 22" monitor and saw this in a local retail store HD2200, I was going to pick up a Samsung 226BW or the new Samsung ***CW. Now I can't decide on which to go with. All I know is the contrast ratio on the HD2200 is 1000:1 and the Samsung is 3000:1. All in all I'm looking for rich colors and good responce time for gaming and photo work. Do any of you guys have a suggestion on a monitor for me?
SimplyTheBest @ Nov 20th 2007 5:31PM
im in the same boat as you, keep in mind that the people who are boasting that they have 3000:1 ratio and 2 ms response time are just bullshitting. They are using marketing to like "dynamic contract ratio" to say one thing but it really means another. I think i will be going with the Gateway 2200HD myself, it has the most inputs and it just looks amazing in person.
NATO5776 @ Nov 21st 2007 3:01AM
SimplyTheBest, my thoughts exactly, in person, running with all the other monitors it looks the best!
