Ok, here you go, the first rendering of Helio's new Mysto -- AKA, the
Samsung SPH-A523. Looking every bit as fine as Samsung's
U600 Ultra Edition slider (on the right), the Mysto busts EV-DO data, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, and a 3.2 megapixel camera up under that QVGA display while maintaining the U600's 10.9-mm thin profile. Date and price? In time friends, in time.

I don't like to say this, but please, can Helio do any better? They're supposed to have SK Telecom behind them, but it sure doesn't seem that way. They only sell Samsung- can't they get SKY, Moto, or LG in their line-up?

Hmm... Does this phone give me a good reason to stay with Helio ... Does it play doom?
No?
Man I can't wait till my contract expires.

don't know why the reaction seems negative here, looks like a great looking phone to me. seems like a good fit for their younger target market. if i wasn't a smartphone type of guy, id probably want something thin and sleek like this.

Helio can't help it. They're running on the Sprint network, which limits them to CDMA phones. All the cool phones run on the GSM network, which is more prevalent worldwide. Guess they couldn't get access to AT&T or T-Mobile.
Jamar @ Oct 25th 2007 10:21AM
Actually, there are phones that are cooler still on CDMA in Korea. Problem is that they're on 800MHz/1700MHz, while Sprint is 1900MHz only. I imagine after Sprint migrates everything to 800MHz (so I've heard) Helio will be able to directly bring in phones from Korea and just add Helio firmware rather than using the American-market phones.

I seriously can't wait for this. I was interested in the Heat but wanted a slider with a full HTML browser. With luck, this will be the Fin in slider form. My contract with AT&T is up on Nov. 4, and I hope they get this out by then.
letstakeawalk @ Oct 25th 2007 9:20PM
If you need to port over before your AT&T contract re-ups, Helio has a 30 day "Happiness Guarantee" where you can return your phone for a different one or cancel the plan entirely. This might buy you some time until the Mysto is available.
