Samsung planning firmware updates for YP-P2
It looks like Samsung's snazzy YP-P2 just became even more attractive, as folks still on the fence (and even those that aren't) can reportedly look forward to a number of upcoming firmware updates that promise to add even more functionality. Apparently, the P2 will be hit with an update this December that enables a Bluetooth connection to one's mobile phone, BT file exchanges and the addition of an e-dictionary (saywha?). In late January of 2008, you can expect an upgraded Touch UI along with FM recording / playback. The elusive "Third Wave" update is set to land next March, but as you can tell from the photo to the right, Sammy's just lettin' your imagination run wild with this one. That's nice but... The biggest question isn't answered: will there be a "Sammy-UI" on it? :(
What does that mean?
Sammy's emoture ui is on it if thats what you mean. Your statement gives off a hint of itouch ripoff.
As for this player, added functions are always nice. €186 for 8gb version is quite cheap compared to €299 8gb itouch.
The best feature coming with this update is allowing people to answer phone calls on the player itself. The music pauses and lets you speak via the built in mic.
@shuyin198x
yeah that's what i mean. but i've never seen the cute little dog jumping around on..in? whatever (i'm german) the display. well of course you're right, why shouldn't it be possible to set it as the menu design...
the only thing that enoys me is this status... led whatever thing below the display. i don't know why, but i don't like it =( i havent had the chance to see a video of a white P2 yet, but i hope that the status ring led thing can't be seen on it.
My god, that chick on the ad is so excited about the Bluetooth Lifestyle that she shit her pants!
I thought it read EmoTune...
Does anyone know if this has an armband for it? My next MP3 MUST have an armband!
That's funny, I've never heard of audio file formats ever having armbands.
Daliminator2000 - you're a jackass.
It seems public opinion is against you, Ty. Better luck being a smartass next time.
there is a comercial on youtube in which an armband is shown:

When is the YP-P2 available in North-America?
The 4GB is available now. I bought one at Circuit City while I wait for the 8GB to come here. (also saw the 4GB at Best Buy and Wal-Mart) I LOVE this player. The Bluetooth stereo works really well.
I wonder if they will fix the fact that you can't listen to the FM radio with Bluetooth headphones.
Oh and I saw the 4GB available now at Amazon too. My expected ship date for the 8GB is early November.
The YP-P2. (Why pee? Pee, too) How ordinary. Yawn. The excited Korean cutie is definitely more appealing.
Is it possible for them to add an internet browser?
That thing about pairing it with your phone has to be the most useful BT feature ever. It gives a middle ground for people who don't want an integrated mp3 player/phone.
No support for OGG? No sale...
This player is absolutely brilliant. I can't wait, it'll be only a few days until I can pick up calls on my mp3 player! (AND DIAL THEM TOO..)
It's so exciting because I just CAN'T find that right, stylish touch screen phone in America and now I can hide my stupid American phone in my bag and dial with this beauty (white Samsung P2 4GB). As for the LED ring it IS visible on the white model. I think it's nice but to each his own @_@..
Also it IS set to play OGG (and AAC) with the December update.
Does the new firmware-update implement the data-transfer from Linux.
wheerree cann u get the new firmware frrom!?? please someone tell me!
You need to visit www.samsungplay.com and choose your country, then SUPPORT,and DOWNLOAD. Good luck.
I got my P2 just before Xmas at John Lewis, Edinburgh, UK. What a beauty. Only problem, if any, is that, on video mode, you can't adjust the screen size. Manual says you can.. very vaguely indeed. Screen size menu is not available on this machine, which plays only 16:9 ratio. If you watch 4:3 clips, picture will appear squashed and other formats over stretched. This might be just the UK/European spec? Anybody's got the same problem? Hopefully this will be resolved with a firmware upgrade?
You can adjust the screen size but only on some videos...because I was wondering the same thing and then i added some nex videos and some of them I was able to adjust the screen size on.
