iPhone and iPod touch v1.1.1 get instant jailbreak + installer

We could hardly believe it ourselves, but the open source community has parlayed that game-changing v1.1.1 TIFF exploit / file system hack into a full-on ready to rumble instant installer for AppTapp on the iPhone and iPod touch. Check out TUAW for the steps and further details, but we tried it on our v1.1.1 touch and it worked like a damn charm. In fact, we think this is finally what's going to get us to upgrade that virgin 1.0.2 iPhone we've been using. Fingers crossed.

Update: We upgraded that iPhone and it worked well, just like the touch (albeit a bit slower, since it's pretty clear all the upgraders are slamming the AppTapp download servers). Our hats go off to the dozens of hackers that developed this one, this is impressive stuff.

You might need a Wifi connection to do this according to tuaw.com: "UPDATE: Please try to do this using WiFi rather than EDGE. Success rates are much higher!"

This is pretty dang sweet! Jailbroke in seconds, after a little googling, was ftp'ing into my ipod touch in minutes....NES, iPhone apps, working calendar; i love my little device. maybe too much...

I have a question

Im not a computer genius or anything. So after the new v1.1.1 update I can still use an unlocked iPhone without it bricking up and never be able to use it again?

P.S: If can still use it after the the update whats the best procedure for this?

So yeah the point of this? Because once i put installer on there it doesn't read my ipod touch as a touch it reads it as a iphone and tells me how it cant support it

i have a small problem. i was using my installer 3 on iphone, and kept downloading games, when i hit the home button, i got some of the games and lost my installer, where can i find it back? and how can i uninstall those games? thanks.!

Well the installer is out and it works great but I am now forced to restore my iPod touch... I installed something that didn't show up on the home screen so then i uninstaleed it right? Seems like there would be no problems until the iPod remained stuck while trying to load the home screen again. I forced it to shut down (by holding the home button and sleep button for 10 seconds). Now it wont turn on (just shows that apple logo forever). I just restored and everyhting is back to normal... I suggest people just wait till february... That almost gave me a heart attack!

if you purchase an itouch after the update for 1.1.2 is out. how do you go about installing the firmware to the itouch before upgrading?!?
do you have to do it before connecting it to your computer if it automatically updates it or is there a way to deselect auto update and connect your itouch to your computer from the box and then download the firmware.

Okay, I reading all this stuff about "JailBreaking" the Ipod Touch, but I still haven't read anything telling me what all the advantages of doing this!...I know you will be able to d/l a third- party program but what are some example of what this enables you to do?
I got searching for stuff like this because I would like to be able to play movies off the internet and play them on my tv but you can only play youtube, and not alluc etc...

HELP ME OUT!

I don't have much to say relating to the jail-breaking of my iTouch...In Truth I have yet to preform the hack. I just wanted to respond to "sevenalive". You may not be an apple fan, and trust me the completely bias fan-boys you speak of annoy me as-well. But for you to make the ignorant comment of OSX not being perfect based on the hacks of the iPhone/iTouch is asinine. Before I go on, forgive my spelling. I do not mean to belittle the poster in any way. Its just not exactly a secret that the OS running both devices is not OSX. Hell its not even a mobile version of OSX!!! If such an OS had been created, we would find it on far superior devices. Besides, at the end of the day even if it was a full version of OSX (Mobile or otherwise) of coarse it wouldn't be invincible, its open source! Its meant to be adjusted and manipulated!

Hi,

I just bought a protective case for my Ipod at target through www.newelectronicdeals.com on Black Friday. I'm glad my I'm Ipod is protected, but it looks stupid the way it currently is.

Apple needs to regulate some of it's 3rd party providers for elegance and design.

I guess I thought getting it on Black Friday would be a benefit.
