40GB PS3 features 65nm chips, lower power consumption
It's been revealed that the new 40GB PlayStation 3 features more than just a cut down hard disk drive. Sony has also thought to stick the 65nm version of the Cell inside the new console, reducing the power usage down to around 135 Watts (down from 200 Watts.) That means the console also runs cooler and quieter, which is always a plus for a device that usually resides in the living room. Sony also jiggled around a few other components by making the heat pipe smaller, swapping out the motherboard for a new version, and added a button battery to keep time when the system is off. Looks like potential PS3 purchasers will be looking forward to a less noticeable din then.[Thanks, Khattab]

I'll buy one when they add a $5 scaler chip so I can play in HD on my 1080i set. Seriously, new motherboard and no scaler?
Whatever, no sale.
Manager of my local gamestop is offering me a free used PS2 with purchase of a PS3 + 2 games and a controller, so I guess it's time to (in the words of howie mandel) take the deal. It's not quite the same as having all that functionality in one unit, but for 400 bucks (I guess 550 bucks after games and controller) I'll be getting a PS3, used PS2 (big deal since my PS2 is about dead), 2 games (Warhawk and maybe Resistance), Spiderman 3 Blu-Ray, and my choice of 5 blu-ray movies (that offer still exists right?). Now all I have to do is wait until the 40gb model comes out
Does the 40gig upscale regular DVD's?
Well, by the time I save up enough money to buy a next gen console, It'll be price dropped, again, and a lot of good games will be out for it. That's if publishers don't make crappy ports for the damn thang. I want better frame rates and better grafix than the x360 or x360 will be getting my money
the feedback here is fantastic so as a final recommendation to a new ps3 buyer
do i get the 40 gb or the 60 gb console?
im not interested in playing ps2 or ps1 games, really dont care about the memory card readers and im not bothered about how many usb slots there are.
i just want a console that runs smoothly with the least possible issues so does the 40 gb improve on the 60 gb model performance wise at all?
thanks
