Harman Kardon intros three new Guide + Play GPS units

Harman Kardon is still relatively new to the GPS game, but it looks to be increasing its presence in a fairly big way today, introducing three new units in its "Guide + Play" series. Those include the low-end GPS-310 model (a follow-up to the GPS-300), the slightly more capable GPS-510, and the top-end GPS-810. Each of those pack a 4-inch widescreen display (or 4.3-inches on the GPS-810), along with text-to-speech functionality, 2GB of internal memory and, of course, all the usual GPS and PMP features you'd expect from a device dubbed "Guide + Play." The GPS-510 ups things a bit with real-time traffic info, additional video options, and support for SDHC cards, while the GPS 810 tops things off with a wireless rotary controller (seen above), an FM transmitter, and built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling. Look for the whole lot to be available next month, with the GPS-310, 510 and 810 setting you back $350, $450, and $600, respectively.

Le facteur de forme est volumineux et porte n'était pas très différente de la gaine du ruban plein de taille périphérique GPS à votre poignet.

This is my first GPS and so far I am pleased with it, I just needed the basics to find a location.

However, I wish HK would have mounted the speaker on the front face of the unit. I have a problem hearing the voice prompts while driving on the highway with the window down (my hearing is fine)....a repeat button for the voice prompt would be useful.

Does HK or any aftermarket company sell a plug in (in to the headphone jack) amplified speaker? It would be great to somehow have the voice prompt transmitted to the car speakers. I got spoiled using the factory GPS in my wifes 07 TAHOE LTZ, which is a far superior GPS compared to my HK 310. The voice prompt is heard through the stereo system with an adjustable volume for the prompt.

I guess I can check with Radio Shack for a battery powered amplified speaker.

Cool piece of gadget, having more and more functions like mobile phones nowadays. But we should be busy enough with our eyes on the road I think

Cool new features for GPS. games, FM, music players... But we should keep in mind to have our eyes on the road, we might have fun with these devices that it add to our list of time wasting gadgets

They call it "a breakthrough rotary wireless controller" but it's the same one on the Drive+Play 2...

The one thing missing from this thing (in the description at least), is an iPod interface.

They need to step it up a notch if they want anyone to buy that damn thing. Nothing on that impresses me, hell the lower end GPS's are better than that.

can someone please tell me why there isnt any good PMP+GPS available in US/Europe ? I mean something like 7inches, a hard drive/SDHC, possibility of having Tomtom/Other popular Satnav software and playing movies, music...

It seems it is reserved only to Korea. Is it for legal reasons?

I want to invest in something that I can use in my car, but also in the train or the plane or anywhere...

Hey yavin... when you find a good one... let me know. I think we both will buy one! Doesn't it make you sick? Convergence is the key... I will take a good PMP I can live with 40gigs or so. That has good GPS on it and does wifi maybe...So i can surf the web. Syncs when I get to the house? and updates like TOMTOM does. (Maybe in a perfect world...why not tho. The zune does it). And to top it off has 5 hours of battery life. Thanks. On second thought I will buy 3.
