Buffalo intros 19x DVD�R burner

While the new Buffalo DVD burner can never compare to the wall-rattling speed of Samsung's Super-WriteMaster (which blazes through your pirated software at 20x when hitting DVD±R discs), the 19x offering from the Japanese peripheral manufacturer ain't too shabby. There's not too much to get excited about beyond the burner's adequately fast speeds, save for the ATAPI and SATA configurations and availability of white or black faceplates -- which are sure to be a sweet match to even the most fashionable of desktops. The drive will be available in mid-November and will run you ¥6300 (about $55) for the SATA model, and ¥6900 (or $61) for the ATAPI configuration. [Warning: read link is in Japanese]

What's the point? I've tried 16x Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim DVR+R and DVD-R and none can burn reliably at 20x. Only the Verbatim DVD+R could even handle 18x.

ive gotten the verbatim dvd+r to burn at 20x in my lg drive pretty reliably. my question is why is this big news? i have had an lg dvd burner since the beginning of the summer that burns 20x and it only cost me like 30 bucks (i got 2 of them they were so cheap).

I'm outraged. I moved all my pirate software to a terabyte hard drive a while ago. (Though I'm not exactly sure who's hard drive it is, thanks.)

As others above mention, I can tell you for sure from the pattern on the top plate of the drive that this is a Lite-On drive. It's likely a LH-20A3S.

This is normal for Buffalo, they make alternate firmwares for existing drives.

Many companies just rebrand Lite-On, NEC, and Pioneer drives with their logos, so why not Buffalo too?
