Verizon Wireless customers, you may want to sit down for this one. Samsung's oh-so-sexy
SGH-F700, which is currently thrilling quite a few
Vodafone customers, could be headed to The Network -- and soon. According to
Phone Arena, the Verizon variant of the F700 will be dubbed the SCH-U940, but actual details beyond that are scant. We are told that the unit will boast a 440 x 240 resolution touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard and a two-megapixel camera, but beyond that we're left to wonder. No worries though, as the phone will reportedly be landing "in a few months," so keep your eyes peeled, cool?
this looks pretty decent to me
I thought so too. Until I saw the VZW UI bar on the side.. looks like I'm still switching when contract is up.
@thomas:
they don't even know the name for sure yet... this is a rendering of what these people thought it **WOULD** look like... notice how there's NOTHING ELSE on the screen? Why would they put ONLY a bar on the screen when it's open?
And it's a signal/battery bar... you're going to drop vzw because you don't like the battery bar?!
verizon has come out with some attractive devices that are straying away from their rather boring and monopolistic UI, or are at least adding options to it for customization... and if you're THAT 1337, maybe you should just stop whining and get a smartphone... like I did.. then you can do whatever you want with it.
---------------------------------------------
and to be more on topic, this phone looks awesome.. I guess it'll just come down to the features that verizon decides to include and if that 2mp camera (shame it's not the 3mp on the f700 it's based on) is actually autofocus and whether or not it's too thick. the voyager got me excited.. now TWO awesome touch screen phones with a qwerty and at least semi-decent camera? /falls over
A few months for Verizon could mean 2009. I swear they don't want me to upgrade my phone.
Damn, Verizon is really getting all the good phones lately!
That's what I was saying.
What the heck SPRINT? WHAT THE HECK?
AKBlade13
@aklade13
Sprint is getting pretty good phones lately you know. Especially the htc touch.
Let me guess...this does not have Bluetooth OBEX (Object Exchange) :-(
do you think this'll have WM6 on it or Verizon's horrible GUI? This phone will be the deciding factor as to if i stay with vzw or jump ship to at&t
Probably neither. The F700 isn't a WM phone, is it? Specs page at PhoneArena says no wifi. :-(
It looks like it will be Samsung's own UI, as seen here:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/08/samsung-outdoes-itself-with-ultra-smart-f700/
Is that what the Vodaphone version has?
Hopefully Verizon's will have the better four-row keyboard layout (not pictured) like Vodafone's.
yeah, the space key and other key placement is wierd. for instance, the far to the right of the y and u buttons...
other than that this phone looks pretty sick.
lol
the name SCH-U940 is retarted.
why can't they name some product tht you can actually pronounced like iphone, silver or blackbarry.. ackkk.
I think it'll be an internal name... like the VX9900 is the enV... and the VX10000 is the voyager, and the vx8500 was the chocolate.. etc.
That's a sammy internal name, just like all of the sprint phones (only sprint doesn't come out with a snappy name to cover it up).
You're dumb. That's how Samsung names their phones so they can find them easily.
SCH for CDMA, SGH for GSM then a dash, then the model of the phone.
And Samsung _does_ name their phones, eg. the SCH-i760 is called the Robin.
Can anyone tell me if they think or know this thing will have real web browsing like the iphone? Cause that all i really want in a new phone..
Samsung includes Picasa and Mobile Opera on their pdaphones, but if this lacks wifi, so who knows.
And the iPhone hardly has the best web browsing, not like you can use it on EDGE. Check out Mobile Opera and Picasa.
Wait, am I confusing Picasa for something else? It's that browser that starts with a P that everyone likes.
Yea but i just like how the iphone shows the true web page and not some rerendered material to fit on a phone. I don't know much about phone but i just refuse to get cingular. So looking for a phone that does the real web page rendering. Any suggestions would be great =)
You are referring to Picsel, not Picasa.
2mp camera? what happened to 5? and if they change that, what's to stop them from lessening other features?
enough with the questions...anyways hopefully it will lower the price if they do go with 2mp and all. and hopefully they send a gsm one stateside too.
@ Jesse S
Its called Picsel Browser and i have it on my ppc6700 sprint. Its a great browser that allows you to scroll webpages with a flick from your finger. great app.
they need to have a CDMA version of the Tilt...that phone has everything i want in a phone. hopefully verizon won't cripple this phone to its knees cuz this offers one more thing that the iphone doesn't have and that's a real keyboard.
If this was supposed to be a "CDMA version of the tilt" then it would be run WM6. It doesn't.
After using the iPhone's keyboard I would NEVER go back to a hard keyboard that has little cheap plastic buttons that are, relative to the iPhone's, hard to push.
then why are you on this page looking at a non-crap (i.e. GSM att) phone?
and that's just you. I've used an iphone and I've owned a SideKick II, "V", XV6700, and (what I currently own) a treo 700w... I have to tell you, MY opinion is that the iphone keyboard (or lack-there-of) is total crap. The treo is good for me (small hands) and the "V" was too spaced out, the 6700 had an AWESOME keyboard, but that phone was plagued with problems (too-quiet earpiece, sluggish). The sidekicks are some of the best keyboards I've ever used...
but this one looks awesome. at least it doesn't have those BS space bars on the sides... if it says "QWERTY" it should BE a qwerty keyboard... space bar in the middle. not to mention punctuation where it belongs, not hidden behinds several taps on a fingerprint-loving screen.... ;)
@prokanda
See here's the thing. I'd like to respond to respond to your message I really would. But you lost all credibility of knowing anything about cell phones after the first sentence ("...a non-crap (i.e. GSM att) phone").
Here's the other thing, how long have you used the iPhone's keyboard for? I guarantee you it was less than 2 or 3 days total.
"Here's the other thing, how long have you used the iPhone's keyboard for? I guarantee you it was less than 2 or 3 days total."
Less than 2 or 3 days? If it doesn't feel right within the first hour then the phone is flawed. Be gone iphone fanboy!
Oh an P.S. iPhone boy... Cingular may have a better device selection, but when you get down to it, CDMA is a much more advanced platform, with more room for expansion than GSM. GSM tech is actually semi-outdated, but so prevalent and wide-spread that eliminating it would cause mass chaos.
Yes the voyager has no wifi, but it may be like the chocolate. It came out with the first one and then another and more improved chocolate. Verizon gets more signal strength and a faster network so that already makes the voyager better than the iphone. What happens if the battery dies your SOL, you can get an extra bettery for the voyager which your able to carry fully charged when your on the go. Also, the apple interface is boring on the iphone, ipods and mac pcs, grey is getting old. LG has been making phones for years, every phone is different and just because you had bad luck with one phone doesn't mean you will with the other. LG came out with the first camera phone. EV-DO is much better also verizon bought out unicel, the primary wireless provider in vermont which will make Verizon the monopoly in vermont. Verizon's successful advertising has made it the largest network in the US, if everyone had verizon, talking on the phone would be free because of verizon to verizon. Verizon obviously turned down the offer to have the iPhone for a reason. The Voyager will not be the iphone killer because he iphone was the first released touch screen phone in the US. The LG voyager actually was being built and designed before the iphone so verizon did not copy it. LG voyager=awsome.
It's exciting to see Verizon Wireless FINALLY releasing some visually appealing cell phones (as well the functionality of the cell phones as well). Even though I already purchased the LG Voyager and am loving it, this cell phone carries an appeal that grabs the attention of the eye.
